Super surprising that Lurie fired him. Looks like Chip the GM got the coach fired, given how quickly Lurie restructured the front office.

Problem is that the quality of coaching replacements look pretty mediocre. If the eagles want to be the most wanted coaching job, they have to have Bradford back next year. Another problem is that the most wanted coaches will go to the teams with the best QB talent, so the colts and titans jobs will be the most wanted positions, assuming they fire their coaches. We will probably most coaches 3rd choices.

Regardless of who is the coach, we just have to acquire talent in the draft and free agency. Maxwell looks good when he covers no2 wrs with Thomas behind him, but pretty average when he has to cover top wrs and Jenkins behind him. I think the wrs had a similar problem, Aghalor would probably get more separation vs no 2 corners, but unfortunately he takes on the top cb.

This means Shurmer and Davis are gone, unless Shurmer takes on an interim role next year.

This sucks imo because we lost a pretty ordinary GM, but the cost was losing a good coach. If chip gets another job in the NFL, he will be a better coach at his next stop purely because he had would have learned from his mistakes and do things differently.

To be fair Bill was coaching the Browns

Josh McDaniels won his first 6 games

It's a roll of the dice really
Bradley was the Eagles second choice and he is 12-35. Garrett is 45-42 and he has a franchise QB. My gripe is not giving him another year.

That's why I put the part in about McDaniels

We thought he was the second coming. We were wrong. It's done now so just look to the future.

Can we have Lane Johnson though?

I agree with you, I think alot of problems that occured behind closed doors maybe leaked in the next few days. About 9-10 months ago Lurie was so smitten with Chip, he gave him full control of the team. 9 months later he fires him. Lots of things must have gone wrong for it to come to that.

Watched Lynch play this morning and he was awful. 16/37 108 yards and an INT. Honestly I prefer Goff if they decide they want to draft someone. Still think Bradford is my preferred option and taking a QB later in the draft to develop.

The thing is that Bradford (reportedly) already turned down 4 years/$72m.

I'd be horrified if we paid that, let alone paying more than given he turned it down. I've always been quite high on Cook, I kind of like Goff too, but I doubt he'll get past the 9ers.

Given we're looking at a 2-year rebuild anyway, I think I could quite comfortably move forward with Sanchez for a year if we didn't take a QB til the 3rd or 4th round (assuming the QB we take in the 3rd or 4th doesn't turn out to be Russel Wilson.)

Oh god that's depressing to think of Sanchez being our QB for the year. I don't know if I could even watch.

Owner Jeffrey Lurie said Executive VP of Football Operations Howie Roseman will again head the Eagles' personnel department.

Roseman won't have the title of general manager, but it sounds like the Eagles won't be hiring one. Instead, the trio of authority will be Roseman, Senior Director of Player Personnel Tom Donahoe, and the new coach. They'll form a collaborative effort to make decisions. Roseman was the Eagles' GM from 2010-2014 before being forced out of the role by Chip Kelly last offseason.

For those that haven't seen it yet here is Lurie's full press conference on the firing. Dan Snyder or Jed York ( Brasher) he ain't.

Even if you can't watch the full 23 minutes, at least watch from about 16 minute to 18 minute mark, some interesting points on what values he is seeking.

Let me know if the link works, and what you all think, I am interested in your views...

So the consensus in here is that he should of been fired? Guess I am alone. I thought he deserved another year but had to be stripped of his GM powers.

Thought he could have been given another year if he just concentrated on coaching, but when I read stuff like this I guess it's best he is gone. Basically one extreme to another going from Andy Reid to Chip Kelly, would have required a large adjustment from many at Eagle Land.

"Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson, who was Kelly's first draft pick, said his former coach was considered "unapproachable" by many players."

He lost the players. It seems obvious.

Ultimately, his methods weren't suited to professional adults.

I would not read too much into this, he may have turned down a contract that had $14 million guaranteed, and was heavily backloaded. The real value in contracts are in the guaranteed money.
