Eagles signed DE Josh Sweat to a three-year, $40 million extension.
Sweat, who was in the final year of his rookie contract, gets $26.9 million guaranteed, a $10 million signing bonus, and $2 million in incentives. It's a massive deal for a sub-package rusher with three starts and 10 career sacks. Sweat has never played more than 40 percent of defensive snaps in any season. The contract is the second major extension from GM Howie Roseman after locking up LT Jordan Mailata last week. Sweat, a 2018 fourth-round pick, is now signed with the Eagles through his age-27 season.

I like Sweat more than most. But what I’m most curious about with this signing, is what it means for Derek Barnett.

All but gone if you can find a trade partner id think. That is a contract that pays him like a starter moving forward.

Yea. Was surprised how much Joe Banner loved this contract for the team. Was a lot bigger than I anticipated.

Seems a lot but could also work be genius, maybe the coaching staff see big things in him. Both Sweat and Brian Burns Florida State Seminoles, got some very similar physical traits.

With the Jets needing a pass rusher and Douglas being round in Phili for the Barnett pick I think there is a possibility he could end up there for a mid/late round pick in the coming weeks.

Yea, been hearing they are in the market for a rusher. Kind of seems foolish to me for them to give up draft capital for a guy in the last year of a deal, but if Douglass envisions possibly signing him to an extension, could see them being willing to part with a 5th or 6th. Who knows.

I think he's more likely to be a deadline trade if they're not winning games - they love a strong rotation along the DL.

It's not that big a call to expect Sweats numbers to continue to rise, the guy looks dangerous every time he plays.

Projecting a third down pass rushing specialist to have the same output as a starter is pretty silly, that's all im saying. Lot of different factors to take into consideration. Gotta be solid against the run, gotta have a big motor, good endurance etc

I like Sweat like I said and he could very well live up to the contract. Just not the way id go about looking at things.

Really disappointing game today. Overall defense played well but they couldn't make a stop in the 4th quarter to see if the offense could make a comeback, so that basically undoes all their good work. Having said that 3 points by the offense in 3 quarters is pathetic. Siriani needs to learn to take the FG in quarters 1-3.

Also refs were putrid. The difference was basically the DPI call against Eagles on 3rd down on the goal line on an uncatchable ball (49ers 2nd TD), along with the turnover fumble that was reversed in 4th qtr due to helmet to helmet hit - how often do RB's get hit in the head? Those 2 calls = 1 TD (49ers scored 10 from those drives when they should have had 3 points only) and are literally the difference in the game

Yeah leaving too many points on the field which didn't matter last week but was so costly in this game. Simply have to come away with points every time with a full set of downs at the 1.

49ers are a good team though so I'm not too down after this one.

Eagles placed TE Zach Ertz on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Ertz's 2021 has gone from bad to worse as he's now in jeopardy of missing the Eagles' Week 3 matchup with the Cowboys. He spent the offseason looking for a team who would trade for him, only to find no interested parties. Through two games, Ertz has just four targets. Expect Dallas Goedert to take on a larger role if Ertz is absent this week. With no competition for playing time, Goedert would be locked in as a TE1.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said RG Brandon Brooks (pectoral strain) will probably be placed on injured reserve.
Brooks will be eligible to return three weeks after being placed on injured reserve but Sirianni would only say that the pec strain isn't season-ending, indicating that he'll be out for more than the three-game minimum. He left the Eagles' Week 2 loss to the 49ers in the first half and was unable to return. Second-round rookie Landon Dickerson stepped in for Brooks last week and would likely be tasked with starting at right guard until Brooks returns. Any downgrade in offensive line play would be a slight knock against Jalen Hurts but his rushing output makes him an every-week fantasy starter regardless of protection.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Eagles LT Jordan Mailata (knee) won’t play in Week 3 against the Cowboys.
Mailata's absence isn't expected to be a "long-term thing" — a fortunate development after he inked a lucrative four-year, $64 million contract with Philadelphia a few weeks ago. Third-year OT Andre Dillard will instead be in the Eagles' lineup after he lost the competition to Mailata last summer. It's the worst-case scenario for the organization short-term since rookie Landon Dickerson will simultaneously be making his first career start in place of RG Brandon Brooks.
