Latest news, the scud (or dud) has been flogged in straight sets. What's going on????? Flogged at the open, flogged in the davis cup. HE WILL NEVER WIN A MAJOR!!!! Too much wine women and song IMO.

Stupid logic. He won it as much as Hewitt, Arthurs and Woodbridge... Actually, even less. He only won 50% of his matches, whereas the others one 100% of their matches in the final.

I think Thrawn was referring to the Davis Cup in France a few years ago, not the one last year, because it was Hewitt's victory against Ferrerro which set up the tie in Melbourne. Even if Philippoussis had lost to Ferrerro on the Sunday, Hewitt would have beaten Moya on grass to win the tie 3-2.

As long as Lleyton wins and the doubles win tomorrow, we should still beat the Sweedes in this one.

Stupid? Philippousis tore one of his chest muscles to win Australia the Davis Cup by beating a top 5 player... in a five set match where the fifth was 6-0! I suppose if Hewitt lost his first singles match then came out and won his last to win it for Australia, he'd be less of a winner because his other team mates won all their matches? Don't give me that BS.

How many matches he lost prior to that one was irrelevant... he won the match where it counted. Now, you could join your friend who created this thread and bag him all you want but the fact is that there is still a reverse singles match for him to play. It's premature to write him off now considering that he's got PLENTY more Davis Cup matches to play in this year!

Actually, I was talking about last year's final against Spain. And even if the Poo lost, why are you so confident that "Hewitt would have beaten Moya" ? Lleyton is Moya's little bunny, you can never be 100% sure of anything. I'm sure you're one of those people who said "Hewitt will beat Escuade" a few years back. He is not invincible.

It's just as certain as Moya beating Hewitt, if Poo had lost.

Yep, fair enough. I agree with that logic. Its the logic others use, such as 'he single-handedly won the cup for us' that annoys me. I'm glad for your elaboration.

That said. He could learn a bit from Lleyton at the moment. Scud lacked spark, he looked flat again. Could he be sick?

What about Lleyton's win in the Semi Final against the best player in the world at the moment, Roger Federer last year?? He was 2 sets down and down 3-5 with Federer serving for the match, but he fought back to win the deciding rubber in 5 sets, (not the 4th rubber where there's less pressure on you) to put the Aussies into the Final against Spain.

Lets not forget that Phillipoussis lost a very ordinary match to Moya on grass in that Final last year, Moya's first win on grass for over 2 years!

That was a fantastic match, but the David Cup final has a larger emphasis and is more important. I am not questiong Hewitt and his Davis Cup performances, he is perhaps the best player we've had in Davis Cup but all I'm saying is that Poo's match was far more significant - winning a final opposed to only winning a semi.

I'd say that winning a final is better than winning a semi which you came back from the dead.

So? He came back and beat a better player in a five set match, giving Australia the Davis Cup. I'm sure the positives here outweigh the negatives.

Agreed. I think the format should remain but play it every odd numbered year: 2005, 2007, 2009 etc. Just look at this year. Davis Cup. Olympics. 4 Grand Slams. 9 Master Series tournaments. It's a joke. No wonder Hewitt played to his own agenda last year.
