Well, it won't be DiLeo

Tony DiLeo withdraws from coaching considerations

DiLeo to return to position as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager

Philadelphia, Pa. – May 11, 2009 – Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that Tony DiLeo has withdrawn his name from consideration to return as head coach 2009-10 season and will return to his previous position as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager. Effectively immediately, the Sixers will begin an extensive search for new head coach.

In hindsight, was signing Brand a mistake? He doesnt fit into your offense, especially considering Iggy has no idea how to play around a legitimate post threat.

With regards to the 2-spot problem - surely Iggy has to play there. Young (at 6-8 from memory) cannot play the two, wont be able to guard the quicker players. Its unfortunate, because they are both natural threes. I dont mind Young playing the 4, but it opens up too many defensive problems.

Of the list of free agents above, Korver would be a decent fit. Will definitely help spread the floor, a major issue at the moment. Rush didnt exactly work out as planned... :p

Stefanski hires Eddie Jordan as our new coach.

Personally am not sold on the guy. I know his defensive penchant and thats probably what I'm most pleased about but he's never had immense playoff success. Hope he knows how to group Dal, Iggy and Brand playing in the same team.

I never thought that I would hear Eddie Jordan and defence in the same sentence. The dude has had some of the worst defensive teams in the league. If anything he might be able to get the team to gel with Brand. He loves his Princeton offence so you might see Brand and AI actually playing well together.

As I said anout 1-2 months ago...we have officially chamged our logos.

The way it was meant to be...the new (old) logo

Retro coolness.

Next step is to bring back the old uni's. An announcement over the unis is scheduled for a couple of weeks i think.

Miller isn't what we need.

Look for us to get Bibby. Atlanta drafted a PG, Bibby is unrestricted. Watch it.

I also couldn't have asked that draft to go better...other than getting a 2nd round and picking up a SG. Loved watching teams pass over Holiday. Jrue is my man.

Watch DiLeo's interview on sixers.com. Quotes include, 'exactly what we need', 'wants to, and will play PG', 'loves to make people around him better'.

Plus our perimeter defence increase by a fair margin...

It seems he's got that potential, I like it, don't know much about him or seen many UCLA games but the numbers he posted from highschool are very impressive. By all reports played out of position on a defensive minded team.

Bibby yeah okay, but really it's about Holiday learning off someone smart and growing his PG game even more.

He and Jennings were ranked #1 n 2 coming from HS. Jennings went to Italy, and Holiday went to UCLA with the belief that Collison was going into the draft.

Collison withdrew late, and was then put back in at PG at UCLA, with Jrue demoteed to SG. He needed the ball in his hands to score, etc, and was not used to playing off ball offence...that's why he only put up like 9/3.

Some news going around that we might even just play Lou/Jrue at the point, and let them develop for a year...allowing Thad and Mo Speights to develop more...allow Brand to hopefully get a injury free year under his belt, and then come back strong for 10/11.

But maybe in dealing Dal we can pick up a solid PG/SG, and play small ball/ fast break team of like PG, SG, Dala, Thad, Brand...or something like that...with Kapono playing 15m at 3 off the bench, Smith as backup C, and Speights mixing between PF/C

Strong rumours of Miller for Blake + Outlaw...maybe a pick thrown in somewhere. This has been discussed for a while, but forgot about it.

We are also in strong position to pick undrafted Dionte Christmas. He is a hometown product who can shoot at SG. Accepted an invite for our summer league.

Our backcourt of the future will be Christmas Holiday. ;)

The options are Blake, Bibby or Miller.

Blake is alright, as he is a pass first PG, who can shoot outside.

Although getting Kidd somehow would be ideal for Jrue's development.

Kidd aint going to Philly. He wants to go to a contending team and there are plenty of teams more appealing in that sense.

Yeah, i agree....just pointing out how he would be a perfect fit for mentoring Jrue

Thing's aren't looking Good.
Bibby and Kidd are both probably likely to stay. Portland is content on Hedo and Blake and Outlaw deal is MIA.
Miller wants 3/4 yr, 10 mil but Ed is wanting 2 years for around 5.6mil.

It may come and bite us in the ass if we agree to Miller's terms, we don't want another Dalermbert case.

Portland were waiting for the Hedo deal to finish up before dealing Miller.

And now because he isn't going there, it is either a Miller S&T for just Blake, or they sign Miller outright.

The max that was offered to Miller by Ed was 2/16, but was laughed at. He wants 3/30, which is ludicrous.

Miller isn't coming back anyway...he either gets signed, or walks. the backup, plan B move is Ronnie Price for the vet min, and rotate Lou, Jrue and Ronnie at the 1.

Lou playing the 1?

how did this come about? Has he shown he can play point guard on any level?

The organisation has always seen him as a PG. I think they wanted a poor mans AI. He mostly plays the point, but doesn't handle it very much. Look at his stats for April (i think), I posted them somewhere but cannot locate them. He put up something like 16-17/6.5 or something like that.

When he doesn't take bad shots, he seems to drive and dish pretty well.

EDIT: Found it. Maybe not 6.5 assists...but solid numbers off the bench. He would be a score first PG, which wouldn't phase Eddie J, that's for sure

He showed a bit at the end of the season. Was actually learning how to play PG properly. He was driving and dishing to open guys, instead of taking ill-advised shots. Look at his month of April. Solid numbers off the bench (17 points, 2.5 assists, 2 boards, 1.8 steals, 1.3 TO, Shot .486 from the field, .853 from the line and .350 from 3 land)

He can still score very easily, especially if he works on his range in the off-season.

He may not be able to run an NBA team yet, but has potential.

Summer League game 1

Speights with 28/11 on 11-26 shooting  Not anything to report on defence either

Holiday with 9 point, 2 boards, 4 steals and 2 blocks with 5 turnovers. Defensive gun. Showed good flashes on offence with some good passes on fast breaks. Needs time to adjust to point guard again...although he looked in control.
