The bye is upon us. It's time to reflect and ponder the big questions.
Who are we? Where are we at? Where are we heading?

Our game style has evolved under Chris Scott.
We are no longer the run and carry, high risk taking, exciting team of yesteryear.
This change was brought on by necessity. Mainly our struggles against the press ie. Freo
As well as the loss of skill through the changing of personnel.
The new game style still requires plenty of tinkering before it is flag winning.
Less kicking to contest. Better stoppage set-ups. A plan to stop opposition run-ons. etc.

Our stars are getting older, The kittens are exciting and developing nicely.
There is some seriously good talent coming through. The timing of the transition looks good too.
Motlop, Guthrie, Bundy, Duncan and Caddy are already having a regular influence on the game.
Murdoch, Kersten, Bews GHS Blitz etc. should ready before the stars depart.
Plus will still have Sellwood and Hawkins for a while yet.
I suspect other promising youngsters Jake, Jarred, Jackson T and Brad to came through next year
Hopefully if one or more off Menzel. Vardy, Cowan make it back it will be cats crème.

I'm sure our recruiting Guru Stephen Wells will find new talented players
Importantly their development will be first class.
Finally I expect our trading will be targeted to fill the remaining gaps.

Looking at the other developing teams Carlton, Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon, West Coast, Bulldogs. We seem to be ahead of most of them
I think our future looks bright.

That's a very positive post, Heckler! I love your style :)

The sky's the limit, I feel- still, it's a long way to get up there. Tonight was not such a good start- but the third quarter was a pleasant change from third quarters of recent times!

Hopefully after the bye, we can start putting pieces of the puzzle back together- I feel that, over recent weeks, the team has had a "Humpty Dumpty" feel to it, with no two pieces of the puzzle in their right places. Tonight was a start- we have Stevie J and Joel Selwood back in form by the looks, also Harry Taylor well on the way. The rucks are chuffing along OK- hopefully they will find another level as the home and away season draws to a close. And the young boys- it was marvellous to see Guthrie play so well in the first quarter and Caddy and GHS looked like they were getting some form back- the young blokes are very important to the team structure because the more experienced players can't carry them any longer. Motlop is showing more consistency of late- faded a little tonight but was great in the first half.

You're right- the future does indeed look bright!!!
