Yeah I can understand that. I don’t drive myself but feeling as though you have some control over events, even if not full control, is probably better.Jesus, that's rough. Sorry to hear what you went through but also very glad that you are still with us.
Completely understandable phobia. I can relate, somehat. My wife was in a pretty bad car accident before we met and while I wouldn't say she's got a phobia of traffic or driving in the same way you've described. She's definitely pretty nervy when driving experiences aren't going 1000% predictably. She's actually far more relaxed when driving herself which is probably due to the control factor.
I imagine there are any number of people that have discovered that you can feel so safe that you don’t even give it a thought, and then some random event suddenly wakes you up to danger coming from nowhere you were prepared for.
