Phuket - anyone been?

Gabbie, we were going to stay at Koh Samui but a few friends suggested start at Phuket as first timers and maybe next time move somewhere quiter.

Also looking at a couple of nights in Bangkok - is it worth it or is the shopping in Phuket just as good?

Done both.

Bangkok, great experiance but 2 days is enough. Shopping is better in Patpong area (a suburb), do the nightmarkets, river cruise etc. But it is smelly, not very comfortable. See pingpong show in Bangkok, was much more comfortable than phuket. stayed in classy place at top of night markets, cant remember exactly the name but can look it up if interested. Great spot but was about 200 a night

Koh Samui - nice place and quieter and less developed than Phuket. Much better with wife there, partying and drinking good but probably better in Phuket. We stayed just out of centre which was ok but heaps of good resorts on patong strip

Phuket - too touristy for mine but great party atmosphere. Plenty of activities to do. Stayed in Duanjgitt resort, great pool and 300m to party centre. Bout 60 a night, very good value for huge room, balcony etc.

They all look good, especially in the tour books - some of the most creative photography you will ever see. Thats why I try to get some personal feedback.

Spot on there. The place i've stayed at the last 2 years is better in the flesh than on their website - go figure. Always a first. FYI I do know the Amari Coral Reef is good. It had "water" damage but the "owners" have spent a mint on fixing and upgrading it. It's in a good spot - a tichie bit out of the main noise and hoopla that is Patong's main beach road but close enough to walk it or an el cheapo tuk tuk ride if you don't feel like being a tad energetic.
