Sounds like you had a sick time! I'm going to the full moon in November, can't wait ;)

Me too! But in October! I haven't been to Koh Phangnan before, so I'm wondering if it's worth staying over there for 3-4 nights, to explore the island before & after the FMP - is there much else to do?? Will be staying in Chaweng for 4 nights anyway, but don't know whether to actually stay in Koh Phangnan or just go for the FMP!!

All i can say is i went to the April full moon party this year with two other mates.

Best time of my life by far!!! we ended up taking three sweedish chicks back to our hotel on Koh Samui the same night (will post pics ;)).

Pics or STFU brother. Inbox is okay too btw.

Oh and i also recommend the sweedish bar on bangla road! fantastic place with great music and a few hot chicks around.

Hahaha - and here I was thinking it was a huge Noorgen Vaaz trap to be avoided at all costs.

All accom booked for our stay... Koh Samui > Koh Phangnan > Krabi > Koh Lanta > Karon > Patong. One thing we are getting mixed reports about is the ferry/boat service between Koh Samui & Phangnan. Some saying we need to book tickets 3 days prior, others saying just show up to the pier or whatever on the day and buy one. Can anyone recommend the best option + what company to go thru?

Will be heading to Kata Beach for a wedding in Jan after a trip around the rest of asia. Anyone got any good tips of things to do around the area?

just take the speedboats at night and hang on for dear life

but yeah I have no idea if its not Full Moon time, I assume there are a lot less options during normal periods than FMP times

If its FMP, dont take water taxis, even though we took one home and didnt get robbed (easily the most terrifying experience of my life) there are still lots of stories of robberies on those plus theyre rickety as **** and probably sink all the time.

We booked in advance though. I'd ask you're Samui hotel when you arrive, they'll be able to hook you up.

Thanks man. Yeah I've heard some pretty bad stories about the transport to and from the islands. I've only ever done Patong to Phi Phi on a ferry and that was fine. We actually aren't staying at Samui until after Phangnan. We fly into Phuket, catch a flight to Samui and straight on a boat for the FMP starting the next day, so I guess I'll shoot them an email and see what the go is... didn't even think about it tbh - thought it was just the transport to and from the hotel they only did.

oh ok yeah for the FMP I'm pretty sure you need to book

My group took the speed boats, its a pretty fun trip but I can see how it gets pretty wild. Getting home on them is a hassle though because you'll have a specific boat/dock, and the line is huge. Thats why we ended up taking a water taxi back and we sat 20cm from the water in a wooden boat absolutely rocketing with nothing, just some wood to sit on and the side of the boat to cling onto for dear life.

We booked in advance for the speed boats so def do the same thing, I couldnt imagine just 'showing up' to the ones we went on but there may be others your friends were talking about.

Speedboat > Ferry

Oh god I've heard some baaaaad things about the speed boats.. And I'm hoping to avoid these big lines you speak of as we aren't going back straight away, staying an extra 2 nights instead - mainly to avoid all this hassle.

Yeah mate that is a good idea coming back a few days later. I've been to the FMP 4 times, twice at new years. First time stayed in Samui, got the speed boat there and back, was alright on the way over, smooth ride and everyone had life jackets. Way back was really rough, only a few life jackets to go round, and the pile people on the boats, def not the safest option. Also can be a pain in the arse when your drunk, tired, and just wanna get back to have to line up to try and get on any boat u can to get back to Samui. (if you book a boat to come home prior to going to the party there's no chance you will get on the boat your supposed to)

Anyone going to the full moon party should definitely stay at koh phangan, it's an awesome party island anyway and the nights before the FMP are a good warm up, ie half moon party. The party goes well into the next day, so a good day or two recovery helps. Also the next day or two it's still not easy to get back to samui other than by speed boat, the big ferry comes a few times a day but is usually packed. Last time we were in a bit of a hurry to get back so got on a speed boat 2 days after the FMP, was really rough, the waves were going way above or heads as we came back. Then one of the motors on the boat stopped halfway, was shit scary!!

Obviously I'm not trying to talk it down here, the party is awesome and has to be experienced, but if you can just take your time getting back, take the safer option and go on the big ferry a few days later.

If you've got the time and don't mind paying for the extra nights then stay on KP for sure. It's a great island to chill out on, if you're staying at Haad Rin just chilling out on the beach or at one of the bars (mushy bar even?) and recovering from the previous night is great.

As amazing as the night itself is to be honest the day after kicking back at Tommy's (a bar in the centre of Haad Rin) having a cocktail and hearing about all the ridiculous shit your mates got up to is almost better.

Certainly worse places to be hungover! That was taken a couple of years ago the day of the Half Moon party, just left out of shot was a volleyball net that various european girls spent the afternoon using, that plus a couple of mojito's and it's a good time.

Also the Coral Beach bungalows around on Haad Rin Nai (Sunset Beach around the corner, top right looking at that photo) has some great parties as well, check what they're up to, they have a pool party that is good fun.

Best part about it? Stories? I'm going to the FMP in late November, really looking forward to it.

well i have traveled the world and never been to a party like it...

5,000 people on a beautiful beach, beautiful weather

there are no rules...alcohol comes in buckets, drugs are everywhere, people rooting, good dance music blaring out loud..it just goes off

u wont get anything like it in australia ever. a party like that wouldn't be allowed in australia due to how over sanatised the country is. what's more if there was one it would be a sausage fest and full of dickheads wanting to fight

u will always get the to cool for school people who say its over commercialised and all touristy now blah blah blah but don't let that put u off..go and have a good time.

Thailand rocks! Phuket is awesome and with boys its the best.

Full Moon party was one of the best times I have ever had. Huge stretch of beach with about 8-10 different bars all playing different kinds of tunes. Buckets of booze and mushie shakes....crazy times!!!

Heading over in a week and will be staying in Patong for a few days before we head to Koh Samui and FMP, anyone got any recommendations for accommodation close to the party area in Patong? Will be for two guys in mid 20's, not sure whether to go Hotel or Hostel etc...

I've stayed at Baan Laimai Beach Resort, location is unbeatable for $60-$80 a night - the Millennium was also terrific if beach proximity wasn't an issue - $120 a night up to $360 for a pool access cabana.

I stayed at Graceland, pretty sure it was 4.5 or 5 star and wasn't too expensive at all. Having said that, I've never stayed at a hostel, could be more fun

Is Phuket Town worth checking out/staying in for a night?

Otherwise looking at one of Millenium Resort, Merlin Beach, Kelly's Hotel or Blue Ocean Resort for 3 nights.

Add Holiday Inn and Graceland to that list.
