Hard to see how they get pick 2 but also keep their future first.

They’d need to give us pick2 (because it’s not really pick 2 it’s pick 3 at best and maybe pick 4) and their first next year, which considering some of their form this year is a real gamble. Could be a top3 pick or even if they get a soft run at home pick 7-10. It gets more complicated because again one of the best kids next year is tied to Brisbane, pushing their 2022 pick out at least one place, on top of that, they literally don’t have a single player in the right age bracket outside of Thilthorpe I would want to get it done.

So if I’m the Schnoz I’m not picking up the phone, because trading players has finished for the year. Only deal I would have considered is pick 2, Thilthorpe and next years first.

I’ve said since we got pick one for the first time in our history that in order to trade it, the deal needs to be outrageously favoured to North. Not fair. You don’t trade pick 1 on a win/win, especially when it’s the first in the club’s history. The hype of the trade needs to be so great that it doesn’t leave a single North person, media bottom feeders and even the Judas Barrett amazed by the trade.

Shades of Matthew Pavlich in their ‘he’ll definitely come home because he’s South Australian’ mantra.

They do it with every player. WA is the same. They came for Wells a few times and when he eventually traded he stayed in Victoria. The go home stuff is rubbish. The WA clubs thought they were owed Hogan but once they got him the couldn’t get rid of him quick enough. Buddy was always going back to WA early days, yeah that didn’t work. It’s probably happened in 2 high profile cases, Judd and Dangerfield. Gibbs went back to SA and Adelaide gave up two picks for him…at 29. Melbourne is the biggest draw card for players, be it come home or leave.

One the Roos want
Jason set to be true pick No.1

NORTH Melbourne has given the best indication yet South Adelaide midfielder Jason Horne-Francis will be next month’s No.1 draft pick.

There is a consensus top three among draft experts that includes Horne-Francis and father-son prospects Nick Daicos (Collingwood) and Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs).

The Kangaroos’ general manager of football talent, Brady Rawlings, said on Thursday that they were one of the few AFL clubs yet to pick first in any draft.

They have so far rejected “spitball” offers for the top selection from Adelaide and Richmond, and North is yet to completely rule out bidding on Daicos or Darcy.

But every sign points to the Roos crowning Horne-Francis as the dux of this year’s draft class.

“He’s clearly right up at the top, with Nick Daicos and Sam Darcy, throughout the year and there are a couple of others very appealing as well up at that pointy end,” Rawlings said.

“What you saw from Jason, especially in that last month of footy in the SANFL, we’ve seen that for two years … so going into this season he was well and truly up the top, and he’s had a terrific year.

“That’s all I’ll say, but you can’t put any better performances than what Jason Horne-Francis has done over the last couple of years.”

Rawlings lauded Horne- Francis’ versatility to play as an inside or outside midfielder, as well as forward and back, and said “his attributes are pretty special”. “He’s got the ability to win the ball at ground level and in the air, he’s great at clearance, he can run, he’s got speed and he’s competitive,” Rawlings said.

“If we are to bring him into the club; we’re bringing in a player who has all the attributes we look for and he’s got the ability, as we saw in that (SANFL) preliminary final, to change the game.”
