Have been self-isolating under a rock and so have little idea of what is going on with U18 championship this year. Any word about when they get a chance to play?

I need some stand out junior performances to keep my hopes up amidst our current horror show. I know he's out with a knee this year but I love the look of elijah hollands
Me too. Have only seen one bit of footage but he seems a good size, confident, looks a natural and kicked a beautiful long range goal from the centre square.

You read this and he seems a perfect fit for what we need (plus he's a country kid):

Strengths:

Damaging both forward and through the midfield, high impact per possession, makes quick and sound decisions with ball in hand, moves the ball on quickly, takes ground balls on the move at speed, agility, evasion, avoids tackles in traffic, takes on the game aggressively with his run, long-range goalkicker, kicking penetration and hurt factor, composure under pressure, contested ball-winning

Do want.

He was born in Adelaide too, Dad was a gun

If JUH is as good as most are saying and totally justified as being the pick one and the bulldogs have pick 17 and decide not to “match” as you put it... then they’d be the dumbest organisation ever to grace the game..

Who in their right mind would not give up pick 17 for pick 1 ffs..

Sure.. they could say to themselves.. “oh, we’ll just let him go to Adelaide and then get him back in a couple of years”.. but that’s a massive risk. Plus its a massive kick in the guts to the kid..

What if he ends up enjoying living in adelaide?.. what if he meets, and loses his nuts, over an young Adelaide lass who says no to wanting to move to shitty old melbourne?..

And if he turns out to be a bloody great player with superstar potential.. if he does request a trade to the dogs then Adelaide will demand a massive premium.. A “Kelly” like premium like Geelong have made WC pay..

But I cant see it coming to that.. the dogs would run through all the pros and cons and know exactly what needs to be done..

if the crows have pick 1 and JUH is still the best prospect come draft night.. they will name him, Reidy and Hamish have form when it comes to this... and the dogs will match.. they’d be utterly stupid not to especially if, as in your example, they had pick 17..
Why did you write all that? He said finish 17th, not pick 17... That's pick 2.

Just a thought regarding the uncertainty of who the best players are going into the draft due to the compromised season.
From memory in previous drafts, the top 1-2 players have often been predicted the season beforehand anyways. And it’s often the bolters that come from pick 5 onwards generally. Thoughts?
It was the case in ‘18 and ‘19, definitely not in ‘16 and ‘17.

And I’d say probably not this year, with possibly exception of Ugle-Hagan.

Actually its not all that bad, the pointy end is usually quite clearly set 12 months out (where we will likely pick). And additionally this draft is widely predicted to be the most compromised draft in AFL history. So the options from then on out are going to be more streamlined anyway.

Plus we already have potentially 3 players we can claim ourselves.

I think we are in a pretty good place TBH. Certainly not all doom and gloom!
Until the AFL gets rid of the NGA academies, every draft will be heavily compromised from now on.

I expect next year will be little different.
