With Willem Duursma seemingly separating himself from the chasing pack what would it take for West Coast to trade pick 1? Do Essendon look to package up their first rounders? Can Sydney put together a package for Curnow to appease Carlton by offering Warner? Should West Coast just hold it?

Eagles would be mad to pass up a Duursma/Sharp duo IMO. Add them both to Reid and it will end up a hell of a midfield group.

If Cumming is going to slip to 8 in the open draft as per Cal and Rookie Me rankings and we can get Port’s pick 7 from GCS (we easily have the points) we can walk away with Duursma, Sharp and Cumming and the midfield sorted for a decade.

We backed ourself to keep Reid so why not the same with Duursma?

The only A-grade player who possibly has any interest in playing for West Coast would be Warner but I don't see why Sydney do it.

I’d hope it’s not the retention factor, moreso weighing up what’s better for us
Duursma and maybe Phillipou/Dalton vs two of Cumming, Grlj and Schubert according to Cal’s/RMC rankings.

Honestly, I don't think it's worth us trading up for Duursma. He is not a stand out first like some other years.

If West Coast were keen to trade down, then this is probably the wrong year given two of the bottom 4 with the resources (Richmond and Essendon) have needs all over the ground and in multiple positions.

WC just take the best 2 players as per their ratings, trading out in their current position would be foolish IMO.

Harley, Dursma and Sharp has the potential to be as complete and dynamic as a midfield gets.

Why would Eagles want to trade down pick 1? I can't see that happening. Pick 2 if they get that for Allan comp, yep perhaps but again what do Eagles fans seriously consider trading that pick for? Essendon giving up 5 & 6 for 1 & 22? Why would they do that, Essendon already have 2 picks in the 20's, makes no sense.

Eagles are better off keeping both and having first crack at what they consider the best players. They also have the Hawks pick so any speculative pick that they feel could drop would be used here.

Hawks R1 & R2, WCE R2 & what we can wrangle for Ryan will most likely be used to try and trade up the order hopefully for Suns 1st as they need points & it gets eaten up by bids anyway.

Can see us only taking 3/4 form the open pool & then we have a number of Academy Kids (Evan’s, Williams, Walley) a FS in Banfield that we will look at.

If we did that trade with Essendon I could see them using those picks in the 20’s and trying to move back up the order with another club that needs points. It really depends if they are after a certain player.

Way too messy, can't see it happening. Why would Suns want to move down for starters, they would prefer to jump up the order to get ahead of the 1st bid.

Also, your suggestion that Essendon will basically trade down, only to trade back up. Doubt any of that proposal would occur, seems to be a lot more work for Essendon.

Suns need more points to match their academy kids. If they traded out Ports 1st rounder for example for an earlier pick or a player, they wont be able to match all their bids with current year picks - even if they trade then out for a bunch of later picks.

Suns wont be trading up

Top ten in the open draft is a bit of a crap shoot. Not sure there’s value trading two picks at the back end for one at the top.

Eagles have to stop trading down IMO.

They need top liners, although this draft doesn't exactly excite me too much.

Time will tell.
We need top liners, but pick 2 vs a couple of other top 10ish picks?

Im fine with the top 10ish picks.

The 2024 pick split is too early to say if it was good or bad, but the 2022 pick split was a success, so not like we've missed out

No they wouldn’t? They already need more points as it is

There is a lot to play out, these things never go the way everyone thinks or hopes they might. Who's to say Gold Coast take all 3 academy picks anyway, especially after last year's haul. Suns would also be keen to back their current list in so there might be possible futures involved across multiple seasons.

GCS are more chance to take more than three academy players rather than less. They will 100% trade for points, not picks.

That should be the plan as you are right and not just that, surely it would be a good look for Harley to see the club looking at putting in top notch kids around him so they can grow as a midfield group

Can't be bothered going any further TBH. Thought this thread was created as a discussion thread when it's becoming clear its more about an eagle's supporters wishful thinking thread.

Well you know pick 1 & 2 do belong to WCE & the discussion is about what we do with those picks so yeah it kinda will involve Eagles supporters & what they would like for it.

What Suns do with there First pick is also completely relevant because it will have a big impact on what Eagles do.

If you don’t like it do what you said you would do and exit the conversation.

Think west coast will use both picks they would be crazy not to , the draft is not deep and getting access to the small pool of talent gives them a huge advantage as clubs like Carlton , Melbourne really need to dip in and just don't have the resources to get into the elite tier by using them they are making the pool dry for these clubs which is a win/win , I hope we do the same not that I don't like those clubs it's just if the situation was reversed they would do the same...

I can only really see them trading down with Essendon so that they still get a top ten pick.

Assuming Essendon get a pick for Draper in the top ten and Oscar gets you pick 2 potentially it could be 1+ 13 for 5+6

You really made a compelling argument there. ;) :$

So keep the top picks for top liners. But this draft doesnt look like having any, is more even but not as deep as 2024.

Quality post.

I meant time will tell if the draft is any good.

Plenty of years where a supposed bumper crop has come out as average and a supposed weak draft has unearthed some gems.
