Re: More Info: Pick 10....

Am I the only one concerned that our recruiters are being so indiscreet?

He's pretty much just pointed out the obvious. Watts, Naitanui, Rich, Vickery, Hurley, Hill and Ziebell probably won't be available at pick 10. He didn't say much apart from that except that McKernan is a potential superstar, that doesn't mean that he doesn't consider any one else a potential superstar (e.g. Hartlett). Very interesting that he didn't write off Hartlett being available though.

Re: More Info: Pick 10....

when have the crows gone on record by saying that they will draft a KPP in the first round

if they have gone on record, my prediction the crows will do the opposite

I'm pretty sure I heard it a couple, maybe three weeks ago.

It certainly will be interesting to see if they against their own word. It wouldn't be unprecedented I suppose!

Re: More Info: Pick 10....

Am I the only one thats scared shitless that we will draft McKernan and he turns out to be yet another bust project player with huge upside?! :(

Have some faith :thumbsu:

If this draft is as deep as they say we shouldn't have too many dramas at number 10. They seemed to do alright last year at number 10.

Its not a matter of depth. Its just that I am sceptical of undersized, underage ruckmen that will have to learn how to play as KPP at the next level. Those are the types that hardly ever make it.

They seem fairly sold on him if FAITH is anything to go by. Has he played much KPP in his junior years? Or has been primarily a ruckman?

I'm sceptical, but I'm hoping that they would have learnt from the Sellar situation and have taken it into account. If we do end up taking him, I am willing to trust that they've taken this into account. IIRC, Corey wasn't too bad a forward anyways, so maybe Shaun will adjust fine as well.

We've gone on record saying the draft is stacked full of KPPs and if you wanted one, this would be the draft to get it. This I believe has been perceived by many as us saying we will pick one up. What we have said is that we will go best available with our first couple of picks, how much height factors in is another issue.

Mainly as a ruckman I think, sometimes goes forward. I don't really know about him. He looks like he moves fairly well, pretty smooth mover, he is pretty mobile. When forward he looks like a natural forward though, thats the difference between him and Sellar. He's got a big leap, his marking is his biggest asset, awesome hands. However, Sellar looked very mobile as a junior, did well at draft camp but looks like he has lost some mobility and acceleration. I wouldn't mind McKernan but like Stiffy, am a bit wary. He's got the ability though and the attributes to be a key forward.

Re: More Info: Pick 10....

I too would be very disappointed if our recruiters were giving anything away. The info on the top 7 is nothing unexpected, and if correct all of Sidebottom, McKernan and Hartlett can't be gone at pick 10.

This is however the second report of an Adelaide recruiter refusing to discuss another couple of prospective picks at 10, and that makes me think they are only talking about those they either don't expect to be there or won't take. My gut says they may be targetting a couple of other players, so I would be thinking more of those they don't talk about.

They may well know that Hartlett and Sidebottom will go 8 & 9 and be looking at someone other than McKernan at 10. Otherwise I just can't believe that they would give this much away (and keep their jobs that is.)

(I remember well Rendell talking about Rioli this time last year (intriguing prospect but didn't interview well etc) but he must have known they had decided against him by that time. Is McKernan the Vic Metro boy who doesn't want to come to Adelaide and is he being talked about in the same way this year?)

Re: More Info: Pick 10....

Watts, Nat, Vickery, Hurley, Hill, Ziebell, Rich, Sidebottom, McKernan, Yarran and Hartlett.

That's 11 names and only 9 of 'em can be gone before pick 10. And it is possible someone else could also feature in the first 9.

So at absolute worst, we'll have two of that list to choose from at 10.

I know it is stating the bleeding obvious, but I'm tired of the:

"we'll pick player x if he's there";
"no way he won't get past selection y".

Unless the AFL have a 2 for 1 special on draft day at least a couple of the above guys will be there for selection 10.

Re: More Info: Pick 10....

OK for someone who takes little interest in the draft until the newbies start playing SANFL the next year this McKernan is he a relation to Corey? If so then I share Stiffy's doubts.

Jason McCartney posted on the AFL website that Shaun was quite similar to his brother. Which is suppose is a worrying sign, even though it wasn't intended that way.

If you watch Shaun float accross the pack and take a good pack mark with arms out that will squash your worries.

He's a footballer, not one of our volleyball of basketball projects. He knows how to read it, ruck, kpp, don't worry.

I saw some highlights of McKernan and I was impressed. Granted they were only highlights but he was doing stuff that no bust project player would be able to pull off like running off smaller players, kicking big goals from outside 50, etc. Check youtube.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we selected him.

Um....Corey wasn't half bad.

Almost busted out a brownlow for his troubles.

There will be no lack of talent at our pick, you're spot on.

Got to love those guys who get all pissed and say their club will take player X and that's then end of that.

I had no idea there were that many head recruiters on BigFooty.

PS, Shaun gets angry and likes the push and shove. :D

Why? To judge one brother by another is ridiculous.

If you would do that, why didn't Craig Ricciuto get drafted by the Crows?

Re: More Info: Pick 10....

If I may who do you expect to take Hill in the top 10? I can't believe even Freo are seriously thinking of taking him at 3. After that I am not sure he fits a need for any of the other teams in the top 10 especially with the other quality options available.

I listened to an interview via 5aa podcast, Matty R said that the club would draft the best player available at pick 10

Yep, how many brothers does Mods have?

And Corey was a very good player until a total loss of confidence. Polled most brownlow votes one year but was ineligible through suspension.

Yeah, it would sure suck to have a Brownlow and Rising Star on your side. :o

Who cares if he was suspended for both? He was good enough in two separate years to win those awards. I reckon history would look more glowingly on him if he didn't miss a week or two in those season. Corey was an excellent player who ended up over the hill a little early. His star just burnt out quickly. It's easy to forget how good they were when their careers end so ordinarily.

FWIW, Shaun didn't play in the ruck very much this year. He has played KP posts with an occasional stint in the ruck. I'd still prefer Trengove of the two Cannons big men and I admit that I do have some reservations over Shaun, but he's not a ruckman who needs to learn KP. He's just a player who needs to learn KP.

No I have that same concern. Of all the possible first rounders, picking McKernan scares me the most.

You mean the same sort of things Kepler Bradley did at underage footy?!

Lets not forget that these young kids get hyped up as the next big things only to fall flat on their face. Kepler Bradley was the next big thing because he did exactly what you are describing above. Where is he now days?! ;)

Kepler Bradley always looked like an uncoordinated spider on rollerskates though, still does.
