some people on this board don't think Roo's was doing Lyon a favour they think Schnieder was an under performer. I disagree bigtime Schneiders a game breaker pace to burn and can hit a target something we'l mis more than people think
Thats what his point was....

Cyril Rioli :)thumbsu:) is probably the best indigionous and arguably the best overall talent available in this years draft and his speed and talent would be of a huge benefit to the Swans if we can get him at pick 11.

I'm told in one game in the underage aussie titles when he had to go forward because of injury, he kicked 4 or so goals on only one leg.

Micky O and Goodesy are not getting any younger but hopefully both could help a young super star like Rioli settle into the team and the city.

Potential rising star, ten year player and future leader of which ever club is lucky enough to get him- we have to have him if he's still avialable

you mean, like when forced to take a shot for an injured micky o early in the last quarter v the pies in the finals, with the game still possibly there to be won, and he hit the post from 15m out just to the right, perfect spot for a left footer
the term "choke" comes to mind but that's being harsh, he's a sublime, explosive talent, just not often enough or with any reliability
he's gone, he's NOT a swan now, he's A SAINT, let's find something else to discuss

Won't get past pick 10 IMO, I reckon the Bombers will take him even with pick 6.

I fear that you could be right.

My hope is that with Sheedy gone and their pick being so high, that they somehow might overlook him.

Whilst we obviously need replacements for Leoping Leo and Micky O in the next year or so, IMO what killed us this year was our lack of speed and poor disposal.

A player like Cyril Rioli would be a perfect walk in starter for us and if Essendon don't steal him away from us he'd be hald a chance to slip through to us.

We better not! We have too many players in his type. We need Masten more than him!
Natanui is inelegible, and you can bet he would be taken above Kruzer.

bomberfan you might be lucky to get masten at 6 (? think it was 6?), its too tough to call... you might get Palmer instead
At 11 Swannies might look at Myers or Rance i rekon.

Masten/Palmer or Ebert would suit our team fine. Any of them. Rather Masten/Ebert ahead of Palmer but either way we'll get a good player at 6.

Sydney need to get a few KPP players and probally a quickish midfielder.

here's a scoop...the swans are about to announce the signing to a two-year rookie contract an 18yo brisbane kid named jake orreal, who is 205cm and has played just three games of footy, but has been training in secret with craig starcevich for the past six months

I am unsure on how we can do this. A ‘google’ search revealed that the young man in question has resided in SE Queensland for the last few years, so he can’t be a NSW scholarship holder. Would he not have to nominate and go through the draft like every other hopeful? Even if he wasn’t taken and he went through to the Rookie draft, Brisbane should be able to grab him as a priority draft. Can you please expand on how this would work?

Speaking of tall ‘smokeys’ found by Mark Browning, Joel Smouha made a great impression at the recent AIS draft camp. Described more as an ‘athlete’ due to his short time in the game, maybe a late pick-up to keep Jesse White company?

The South-East Bushrangers scored a thrilling six-point win over the Country Kookaburras in the grand final of the AFL Sportsready State U18 Championships
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306670 at Coorparoo yesterday.

With AFL talent scouts littered around the ground, the Bushrangers kicked the last two goals of a fantastic contest to 8.11 (59) to 7.11 (53) and deny the Kookaburras the fairytale finish they were chasing.

Bushrangers rookie search player Joel Smouha, who had only played a handful of games of football before this year, was best afield in the grand final.

The mobile 198cm ruckman from Mt.Gravatt also won the Coach’s Award from Bushrangers coach Rob Amos as his team’s Player of the Championships.

While a lot of the development focus in Brisbane has been on finding very tall, very athletic players who have never played the game before, the jury is still out on how many of these will make the transition.

Brad Moran had barely played a game before being drafted and was hailed as the best thing since sliced bread 18 months ago but has now been moved on by the Kangas.

The Bulldogs took a huge risk when they used their no 5 pick a few years back on Tom Williams. It's hard to assess what that risk looks like now because he's had a few bad injuries. He started to show something in 2006 but is a way off repaying their faith by using such a high pick.

Our own Jesse White, and the two Tippett brothers (one a Brisbane rookie, the other on the Crows senior list) are more for whom high hopes are held but with little tangible reward so far.

It's not that much difference with the recruiting of Irish boys, except that tactically / game shape wise their code is probably more similar to AFL than basketball or rugby, from where most of the Queensland boys have been nabbed. And of those Irish who did make a relatively quick transition, most are small or mid-sized. O'hAilpin snr took a little longer than Begley, Kennelly and Clarke, while O'hAilpin jnr is still very much a WIP. Of course we have a biggish one arriving on our list in a few weeks. Wonder how long it will take him to adapt.

as far as i know, we used the same loophole, well, i guess you could call it a loophole, to originally sign kennelly.....orreal had not been registered to any club for the previous three years

Are you saying he qualifies as an international rookie?

There was no "loophole" used to sign Kennelly. He was acquired under the rules in place for international rookies which work quite differently to the rest of the draft system.

Out of interest, if he is an international rookie, where is he from? If it is anywhere other than Ireland, he would then sit outside the normal rookie quota of 6 (or 9 for us).
