How does 'multiple options' not include decent tall players?

It is not about directly replacing Fev (it never was) and becoming one dimensional because those types of players are rare anyway.

Nice. :thumbsu:

How good is it to be back in the draft with Mclean and Henderson in the bank? :)

The Fevola trade was the move we should have made with Whitnall four years ago...

At least Whitnall finished as a Carlton player and made it to 200 games.

Except he was shit and provided nothing for 120 of those games....

You are either a hard marker or you use a random word generator to produce your posts Paf...I would call Waite and Henderson more than decent and Kreuzer if the club decides that's where his future lies.....and Hampson if he starts clunking them is a nightmare to match up on......

but i'm sure pick 12 ensures a better than decent tall....you're on top of it after all :)

I'll give you a scenario:

The KPP in this draft are ****ing ****house

Even worse than the midfielders and that's saying something.

Only about 1 or 2 are worthy of pick 12 but doubtful, if a highly rated midfielder slips to us and we reach we'll be spewing years down the track.

i heard butcher may be worth a shot..dont know anything about him, but they mentioned him on SEN as a good target for us.

I keep hearing about Butcher on here....

So let me get this straight, he's a nice shot at goal...but his field disposal is totally sh*thouse? Is that right?

My draft suggestions:

Pick 12 Preference:
1) Luke Tapscott- Great kicking skills, midfielder who can go forward
2) Lewis Jetta- Goal kicking indigenous midfielder
3) John Butcher- Best KPP in the draft but can't kick for toffee
4) Best available

Pick 43 Preference:
1) Jesse Smith- It'd be pretty easy to price Geelong out of the market I would've thought

Pick whatever:
1. Sam Jacobs- Rookie upgrade

If you pick up a tall who cant kick .. what would be the point of picking him up if he cant kick?

Why not look for a tall who can kick???

Nick Holland and Gaspers arent what youd be looking for if his kicking is as bad as all that....

Id just go for the guy who has the biggest upside and back our people to extract it from him....

Im not sur you can actually fix kicking. Too many bad kicks never improve it.

Butcher wont last to us - more chance of him going pick 2 then sliding outside the top 10. Melbourne could go Butcher and pick up a decent midfielder with there other top 20 picks. I would liken Butcher to a rich mans David Hale from the Kangaroos - Mobile, great mark (9/10), too tall for full backs, very good set shot (7.5/10), good ruckman inside 50. Wont happen and i dont think its our biggest need.

you wouldnt use pick 2 on a guy that cant kick .. just cos he is tall when you can really organise your midfield for the next decade....

they will use 11 if hes there... if they rate him .....

you just dont throw away wooden spoon picks like that.....

Now might be a good time to remember what pick we got Fevola with... 3rd round pick 38.

Kind of puts things into perspective.

What are you guys thinking looks at good for our later picks??
Pick 43 & 59 if still around it'd be looking at:

Chris Luff

Height: 193cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: ?
Tall defender

Chris is a backman who reads the play really well. He’s pretty agile and looks quick enough for a big man. He can take a good mark and he is good enough below his knees also. He also has reasonable foot skills but nothing outstanding. He was fairly good in the under 18’s for WA and probably unlucky not to make the All Australian.

Daniel Mezel
Height: 185cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 13/09/91
HBF/HFF

Daniel really caught my attention at the U 18’s. He’s a running defender who is very smart setting up play from defence. He has pretty clean hands, makes good decisions and usually hits his targets by hand or foot. He has good endurance and isn’t slow but he’s not quick either. He does have a bit of versatility too which makes him an even better prospect.

Alex Carey
Height: 181cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 27/08/91
Mid

Inside Mid who’s very courageous, excellent tackler, has good awareness, good decision maker and has great ball winning ability. His foot skills are okay but I did find it hard to judge as he got a fair amount under pressure. He seems like a good leader also as he’s a great example and always brings his teammates in the game. He needs to work on his speed and endurance.

Tom Hill
Height: 199cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 07/04/91
Key forward/defender/Ruck

Tom is a key forward/defender who can play a little bit in the ruck. He had real unlucky year in regards to injuries but I was a fan last year and would’ve picked him. He has a strong grab on and has nice skills by foot. He’s very athletic with excellent speed and agility. Last year what probably hurt him was his inconsistency and injuries. Seems to have good leadership ability also, will go late mainly due to injuries.

David Astbury
Height: 193cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 26/02/91
Key forward/defender

David is all round good solid player. He’s a lead up forward with pretty strong hands and he can often bring down a few contested marks. He has good pace and endurance for his size and disposers of the ball well (needs a bit of goal kicking practice). His defensive pressure is quite good and generally does the team stuff.

Charlie McAdam
Height: 180cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: ?
HBF

Charlie McAdam is a skilled back flanker who is full of talent. He seems to be pretty athletic, has good vision and awareness and a brilliant side step. Not afraid to run and carry and normally hits his targets. Will add a fair bit of polish to the backline.

Kyle Hartigan
Height: 194cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 7/11/91
CHB/CHF

Hartigan ended the season with a bang, playing well in the last three games of the season. Looks better as a defender but can play forward. He’s a good mark, usually a good kick and can make good decisions. Runs off his opponent well and sets up play. Athletically he would be above average for a big man.

Joel Houghton
Height: 196cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: ?
CHF

I like Joel. He’s a nice moving CHF who likes a bit of rough stuff. He possesses good kicking skills and his decision making is okay. He leads well and is a good mark. Seems to be a good prospect in such a shallow draft, maybe will go higher.

Serhat Temel
Height: 194cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: ?
Key forward

Temel is a big boy who has probably the best hands in this year’s draft. He’s a pretty good kick for goal or just in the general field of play. He gets a lot of his goals out of out bodying players and simply won’t be able to do this at AFL level. Athletically he’s slow and not agile also. Realistically I think he will only be a rookie pick up, but I just wanted to put him in as I think he deserves it after a good season.

Josh Thomas
Height: 178cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 01/10/91
Mid

I haven’t seen Josh play but it seems obvious he will get drafted by someone because he was already with the Gold Coast but decided not to come. He was talking up Melbourne (the city) in an article so it would seem we will see him at one of the Melbourne clubs. Apparently wins heaps of contested ball, has good kicking skills on either side and has pace.

I think the club will go into the draft with a couple of talls they would be happy to take at Pick 12. If they're off the board at our pick, they should just pick best available. Fact is more often than not a game is won in the midfield these days, the other team can't score if they can't get their hands on the ball, so an embarrassment of riches throughout the midfield can never be a bad thing.

I dont think their midfield is too far from being complete. Morton, Blease, Grimes (eventually), Strauss and Scully. Maybe even Luke Ball too.

How many marking forwards have they got? Watts and Bate? have i missed any?

if they go trengrove they'll prob get talia with 11. Dont think hes the player they have in mind though.

Mind you having said all this i dont really think they'll get butcher with 2 - wouldnt suprise me at all if they did though

We all know how WH approaches draft day. He has his list ranked in order, and he selects who's on top of that list our turn comes about. I'm not really that fussed who we take this year, although I suspect it will be tall. Suspect all of the good mids will be gone by the time it gets to our selection.

Now might be a good time to remember what pick we got Fevola with... 3rd round pick 38.

Kind of puts things into perspective.

It was back in the days when clubs were allowed ONE 17 year old pick. Essentially he was the last of all the clubs 17 year old picks. Essentially, he was a first rounder from the following year.
