which is the reason the club are keen. We need to get the ball out to our advantage...Mathieson, Ross, Armitage with Freeman, Steven on the outside would be a great nucleus of a midfield....

Completely agree on clearances being a priority but Matho may well and in all likelihood be gone by then.

Seriously, I think we'd be focusing on free agents if we don't draft an elite clearance player this year. As I've stated earlier, the players we draft now are the ones that can have a big influence in 2018, if that is the target.

Gresham is a perfect replacement for joey. Give jade 25 games over 2016/17 untill joey retires then play him best 22 from 2018 onwards.

Billings, sinclair and gresham all rotating mid/fwd is a deadly combination.

Agreed, but we also need to start getting some guys who are going to have bigger frames though the midfield too, can't think of too many younger ones... Acres and Dunstan eventually I guess, probably need at least another taller mid around the Acres height who will fill out well.

Re Daniel Rioli, should go in middle of second round/ Would be a waste of a pick at 14. If we are going indigenous, Milera, Ah Chee and Gresham would be better picks at 14. I would not mind any one of them or Oliver.

Have been watching as much of these guys as possible, it still means i know 11/10th of jack about them.

Having said that here's my thoughts

Oliver for me, has become my favorite, should be there abouts for us.
Aaron Francis: Love this bloke, I definitely dont think he will be there when our turn comes.
Jade Gresham: i really like his work and should be there abouts at our 1st pick.

Other than that Ah Chee, i like the way he moves and marks, and there is something about Rioli, and its more than the name, but i think he will go second round. Alot of clubs didnt want Cyril Rioli because of his skin folds, he was the one i hoped we picked in that draft, but alas it wasnt to be.

I have no confidence in my ability to predict who will be taken at every pick. But I am prepared to go out on a limb and say that my reactions to the first round of picking will probably go something like this:

1. Carlton - A little whoop just because the wait is finally over, not really caring or knowing who the Blues took
2. Brisbane - Desparately looking for my calculator
3. Melbourne - Raising of the eyebrows, followed by a "suck s*#t Essendon"
4. Sydney - Gasp. Furiously trying to follow the point calculations with great furrowing of the eyebrows
5. Essendon - Boooooo
6. GWS - OMG. More furrowing of the eyebrows while banging the old casio scientific against the desk trying to unstick the AC button
7. Essendon - Genuine expression of sympathy for a young man who came so close to being a Saint
8. GC - Pee break
9. Brisbane - Quick trip to the fridge for another beer
10. Melbourne - Raised eyebrows and then some nodding in admiration

I'm excited for getting some more young blood in, I just watched a doco about the 2004 Red Sox and I really want to start moving on breaking OUR drought!

Prediction rather than what I'd like to happen but I reckon it will go something like:

Pick 14(18): Tucker as Matho will have gone
Pick 24(30): Rice after Bombers bid on him
Pick ?(59/60): Hulett as reckon all the names we have for project defender will have gone

Although I see this is a pretty negative outcome in terms of what we are hoping for going into the draft I still think it will come off for us ok in terms of potential.

Agree - but Milera kicked 5 in a SANFL game. Not many 17yo mids could do that.
Although I think Milera will be gone well before 14.

Mathieson, Gresham, Bonner, Tucker. I'm not as sure about Clarke and Hibberd anymore. I'm going largely off highlights and stats so obviously I'm no expert, but I like what I see from Mathieson and Bonner especially.
