Pick 14

I like Clark at 14. Do not want Hill as he is too small and we are already overloaded with short people.

Want Marlion Pickett, but I am sure someone will take him before 31 after what Kelly did. I wouldn't be totally surprised if we look at him at 14, but his age would be a factor.

Bailey Williams, we are a bit short up front...

Seriously though, i think we need pure mids who can kick and preferably with burst pace.

I SAW that;) We will see.

As it stands at the moment re draft table Gws Adelaide and Geelong are the biggest threats to both Clark and Hill being gone before 14. Geelong may go for Clark with 12. Adelaide may go for Hill with 13 (Betts repalcement), GWS may go for Clark or Hill with 11. Hill Clark and Stocker our first pick. I think we have a good chance in this draft to get a gem with 31.

We have good coverage at HBF. Carter will add to that depth.

Leaves small forwards and mids.

How does Hills size compare to giro?
Giro 175cm 75kg
Hill 175cm 76kg

Giro has had good impact this year. Shame about his disposal and decision making. Hill is quicker with sublime skills and footy sense. If he is available we take him

I don't mind O'reilly ,I know we have enough talls but he is great future prospect . Really strong contested mark,I just hope we don't make the mistake we did with the Mcgoverns and WCE pick him and he ends up the real deal.

He has been exclusively at half back. We have lots of small to medium defenders.

Mids by nature are either defensive mids or attacking mids...always has been the case always will be. they have to develop there game to do both and according to team structure and stategy at centre bounce.

How many short people can you have in the 22 before it starts impacting your performance? We already experienced it this year. You’d see our wingers get dragged forward and dominated in the air. We need more 6’2-6’3 footballers. And preferably with pace. They are far and few between unfortunately.

Hill has been sliding probably because of injury and minimal game time at the back half of the year along with the concussion episodes. That may work in our favour as some clubs may think he is a risk. Where he was ahead of even the likes of Rozee and Hateley, now no. Because we have got Lobb and Hogan now... Hill is priority....Colyer Walters Ballantyne ...skill speed and defensive pressure will be something to behold with this four around these big targets.

If that happens Carlton, and the club that picks him up have stuffed up. Carlton had the rights to recruit or trade 2 "mature players", and they traded one of those for pick 43. If a mature player gets taken before pick 43 then Carlton have failed to get full value.

Pickett is a few years older than Kelly which will count against him. I think he will go between our 2nd and 3rd pick somewhere around late 30's if we don't pounce.

Our first round pick will be the best available. Expecting a midfielder or a skinny small forward.
For the first time in a long time, this is the correct option. If we got tall with 14 imagine the melts...

No arguments there.

My point is there is nothing to base Clark being a midfielder other than educated guesswork. Personal opinion is that if he has genuine footy smarts he will be fine but nobody will know until it is tried. FTR, I am happy with him playing half back for us if he is genuinely best available. I don't even think he needs to go to the middle since his arrival would mean Shilly wouldn't have to play back there. Can't have too many good kicks/decision makers in your back half.

Giro and IHill similar in size. The latter just far outweighs the former in ability.

Heard Cal Twomey yesterday say that he thinks Hill will drift into the 20's. Apparently had a poor year and clubs are concerned about his size. Will get snapped in half at AFL level according to some recruiters.
Starred last year and had a shoulder issues this year. Had an operation on his shoulder but I am not concern as he isn’t a key forward.

Being West Aussie, a need and in position that takes a short time to make an impact compared with a midfielder, Ruck or key position. It’s a total yes for me.

Cal's research pretty poor as to the reasons why....but we don't mind if he drifts... Actually Clark is very overated too. None of the WA boys probably warrant a selection in the top 20-25 ;)

I remember watching iHill last year as an underage player against Vic Country, the highlights of that game are on youtube.

Highlights are one thing but watching an entire contest and seeing a player have a remarkable influence on the match, with every single involvement he had, was just awesome.

None of that game had anything to do with his size or weight. He played forward-flank, beat his opponents for speed, beat his opponents reading the play, produced the most intelligent inside 50 kicks I've seen from any player. It might not be next year, but it's all relative and at some point he'll do that at AFL level.

He really improved his tackling aggression this year, he knocked a kid out with tackle that got him suspended. He won't be running back with the flight or causing a collision.

He'll kick goals, he'll apply tackles/pressure and he'll hit Hogan on the ****, constantly.

I’m sold.

Had my doubts about his size, but if he is super clean and I assume he is it doesn’t matter so much because of his agility and pace.

If Wikipedia is to be believed Betts is 174cm and 76kg for comparison.

Where do we sign up?? Fyfe and I think Brad Hill were very light when they were drafted, not an issue for mine. Ian Hill won't be playing inside mid but that's not what we'd draft him for. Is he a quick decision maker?

Yes he is. It's just his size that would make him slip. That and not backing up his underage year and injury
