Pick 14

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I would like us to trade pick 30 and 65 for Sydney's pick 26.

It gets them more points, and will let us take Carter us a Cat B rookie if no one takes him.
I would rather us trade 31 and 43 to GWS for 19 and 89. Go in with 14, 19, 65 and 89. GWS get points (+36) for Briggs (ADEL may bid at 16 is the rumour)
We come out with 2 early picks and pick 89 which may allow us to catch a late bid for Carter or to draft someone like O'Reilly if Carter is not bid on.

I personally like Stocker just as the safe option in a position of need but Hill still works. We definetly need someone of his skill-set in the forward line.

Would be an interesting call to pick up someone else with the hope of luring Hill back in a couple of years though. Could get ourselves a real bargain if Hill does take a bit of time to adjust to the big leagues with his small frame.

Going to be some serious melts around here if Clark is gone, Hill is on the board and we pick someone else.

Remember, at Christmas it’s the thought that counts.

Happy draft day! Just for fun, I did a quick draft day top 30.

1. Carlton - Sam Walsh
2. Gold Coast - Izak Rankine
3. Gold Coast - Jack Lukosius
4. St Kilda - Max King
5. Sydney (bid) - Nick Blakey
6. Port Adelaide - Connor Rozee
7. Gold Coast - Jye Caldwell
8. GWS (trade) - Ben King
9. North Melbourne (bid) - Tarryn Thomas
10. Collingwood (bid) - Isaac Quaynor
11. Adelaide - Chayce Jones
12. Western Bulldogs (trade) - Bailey Smith
13. Port Adelaide - Jordan Clark
14. GWS - Jackson Hately
15. Geelong - Riley Collier-Dawkins
16. Adelaide - Zac Butters
17. Fremantle - Ian Hill
18. Port Adelaide - Luke Valente
19. Adelaide - Xavier Duursma
20. Richmond - Ned McHenry
21. Brisbane - Ely Smith
22. GWS - Sam Sturt
23. GWS (bid) - Kieren Briggs
24. West Coast - Curtis Taylor
25. Collingwood (bid *by Adelaide) - Will Kelly
26. Hawthorn (trade *with Adelaide) - Liam Stocker
27. West Coast - Xavier O'Halloran
28. Western Bulldogs (bid) - Rhylee West
29. Melbourne - Tom McKenzie
30. Gold Coast - Jez McLennan

Ben King is the key to how mine has played out. With the Suns opting for the midfielder in Caldwell, it opens a bidding war for the Bulldogs pick at 8. I suspect GWS will want to leapfrog Adelaide to get him, and will send the Bulldogs a second rounder to do it.

Meanwhile, I have Liam Stocker dropping and Hawthorn trading a 2019 first round pick to Adelaide to select him. Otherwise, not much has changed.

Except it’s only half draft day, Stupid AFL. Who thought it was a good idea to do this?

Imagine if this year I tell the kids they can only unwrap one present on Christmas and they have to wait till Boxing Day for the rest. They’d burn the place down.

Better yet, the majority of the draft is starting at 9:00 AM on a work day (AWST). Even for the Eastern Staters it's a stupidly inconvenient time. Why make the draft this supposed prime time event, and then have most of it happen when the majority of people are at work?

JUST HAVE IT ON A ****ING SATURDAY FFS

Chris, would you be happy with Duursma or Butters? Got the feeling Hill likely gone.

I’d be surprised if Hill went above Butters. Even if it’s us making the pick. Does shape as the better long term player so I wouldn’t be unhappy with it at all.

Same with Duursma. He’ll probably go 15-20 for good reason. Nice size and versatile midfielder. He’d fit in nicely I’m sure.

There’s really nobody I’d be unhappy with. We’d really be reaching for a player if I walked away unsatisfied after tonight.

Even Stocker?

Also, thoughts on Jones and liklihood to slide to us?

I am a bit the same. Now that we have a forward line I am no longer feverishly hoping for a tall only to be left shattered when a skinny flanker type is picked.

The only thing that would pi$$ me a bit is if we draft a midget not named Hill.

Size matters. Trust me. You have to be really good to make it in the modern AFL if your under 180cm.

I prefer Valente and Smith, but it’s largely splitting hairs. Can’t deny Stocker’s performances this year. If it wasn’t for injury, it could be he’d go higher. I just think his ceiling is a touch lower.

Unlikely Jones was to get to our pick, not with GWS and Adelaide both picking twice.

Looking at that if I was Carlton I'd trade that first pick for Port's picks.

Can I ask about the hype from O'Reilly? Is it just cause of the name? There are much better tall defenders this draft and in all honesty we don't need a tall defender.
Word on the street is that O'Reilly is talented, but lacks work ethic.

Will be interesting to see if/when he's selected.

No need to be greedy Bob. We already have 2.

If we get 3, do we officially have an undulation? or a range?
it would officially be an undulation.

if this bloke played with his brothers and/or cousins however then it would be a range...

I'll go;

Round 1: Ian Hill
Other chances, Zac Butters, Liam Stocker, Chayce Jones

Round 2: Tom Joyce
Others, Ned McHenry, Boyd Woodcock, Fraser Turner

Round 3: Luke Foley
Others, Tyrone Smallwood, Finn Betterman, Luke Moore

Round 4: Dylan O’Reilly

Others, Dylan Curley, Oliver Eastland

Rookie: Durak Tucker

Yes, I want mainly forwards!

Yes. The East Fremantle Breeding Ground of Champions!

Why not:

Hill
Joyce
O'Reilly
Curley
Carter

Dylan Curley is a human highlights reel from good Mullewa stock. Screw the sensible approach. We are Freo. We need highmarking freaks who force bums off seats and cause the spilling of lakes of beer. Kicked cats, broken tellies, triumphant howls of disbelief, raised fists of vindication - all in the same passage of play.

O'Reilly can show McCrafty how being lazy really gets done and Rolls Joyce is everything the pretenders think Clark is.

(Hill and Carter are there because, despite their obvious non-East Fremantle shortcomings, they make perfect sense - Carter could be Dale Kickett II and iHill is Freo.)

Always got to open a present on Christmas Eve. Stocking on the bed Christmas morning. Open the big presents after breakfast when the family has got itself organised.

No problem at all with how it is formatted given the changes the AFL have brought in. No hurry from my end.
