Pick 14

Twomey has Clark in the mix for about 6 clubs before us (including the Dogs at #7). There seems almost zero chance he will slide to us. And also a chance Hill gets taken before our pick - I think Geelong have been quite interested in him (@ #13) and they love taking indigenous lads and have no problem grabbing West Aussies.
Geelong may be a bit gun shy after last week.

I think all interstate clubs will be taking the go home factor into drafting from wa. The last couple of years there have a been a few high profiles heading back to perth

I think the poor vic ones may be a bit more gun shy but the big vic ones (Hawks, Geelong, Collingwood, Richmond) won't be and the sydney and queensland teams won't have a choice.

Need to look more into Stocker.

Winning the best player award in TAC cup doesn’t mean too much. Some winners hasn’t even been drafted, while others went high in the draft.

Also, some players who star early have all their weakness examined and new flesh players people only see what stands out.
the 1953 winner went on to be a billionaire & user of brown paper bags

Thanks for that.

Very interesting.
would have loved to have seen two-time winner Fortunato Caruso on an AFL list. don't know anything about him, but imagine what some commentators would be able to achieve with that name??

Clark is good but he is not ahead of at least seven to eight other mids - Cal has got excited only after we started touting him here on big footy...yeah sure other clubs are looking at him....but none will go past their own quality local products first. We are still a chance at 14 ...and probably would only select him if Hill is gone. Hill was talked down on the back of no terrific games at the back of the year....but injury and concussion incidence not relativised to that year end performance. Given he's put in 18 months prior of quality footy. I'm tpping Adelaide may spring a surprise - there future ready made eddie betts replacement.

There are five picks that will probably go in the first round- big guys kpp, with four of them before pick 14.

I expect Valente will get taken by one of the SA clubs if they maintain three picks each in the top 19. He would be excellent for us at 14 if there (Clark and Valente about par).

Yeah it pretty open by the looks of it, and well beyond our pick too. I chop and change who I like best, largely driven by needs but with an eye on the top two WA boys. Hill and Clark's skill sets both look like they would be assets for us. Hill more forward the clincher for me.

Think Cal started touting Clark after some clubs let in that they rated him.

Only reason he didnt rate him a month ago is that he's west Australian and Cal hasn't really got a clue about WA players
Cal is not the only one who doesn't know abut WA kids.

He goes to a lot of underage Victorian school and TAC games, draft combine and the championships. He speaks with a lot of recruiters, coaches and other draft expects.

His views are based our other people's view but he does have a good view on Vic talent.

I reckon his main talent is his contacts. NTTAWWT
Some of the descriptions he's put forward are way off IMO

Reckon Hill slides all the way to our second pick.

I think we should take him first. I mean he could slide as you suggest, but I don't see the need to risk that. After Hill I want a bigger bodied inside-leaning mid, and think we can find one at around 37-ish, but don't think we would find someone with the elite skill-set Hill has.

Quietly hoping the club managed to get him to play inside his limitations this season.

Recon he'd get by West Coasts picks???

Change his last name to Smith, and does everyone still want Ian Hill as much?
Formerly rated as high as top 5, west Australian, elite skills speed and agility, probably starts as a small forward which is a position or dire need but has the potential to be a midfielder like Sonson was last year. Yes, I will take 2 Ian Smiths please
