That sheppard he did in the last qtr was absolutely ridiculous!.

For sure. And he ran so far to deliver that shepherd.

Those kind of efforts dont hit the stats sheet but he created the goal that followed through that shepherd.

Didnt even see the goal though TBH, we were too busy on our feet clapping him the whole way off.

Just watching it on replay and not even a mention from the experts in the commentary box of his effort to lay that shepherd.
But you can hear the crowd acknowledging him as it happened & again as he runs off even though it's not on screen.
Port crowd showing their appreciation & knowledge of a selfless team first act by a proper mongrel Port Adelaide player is a beautiful thing.

SPP was a bit of a mixed bag last, he had a few very ordinary moments in the first half, but he made up for them in the 2nd, that shepherd was sensational.

The incident in the 2nd qtr where he had a blue bagger cold just outside their fwd 50, but appeared reluctant to put his arm out and tackle could suggest he has a sore shoulder.

Jackson who kicked the goal from it, ran straight to him , let him know all about it too.

Need to get someone in to teach him how to tackle. Players get around him way too easily, should be sticking them and making it hurt.

Tackling with his arms only at the moment, makes it easy to work around or through.

He's barely even getting hands on the players, it's good agility or body positioning prior to the tackle. They run around him far too easily and he doesn't chase after.

Mixed bag from him yesterday, some good things, some ordinary things. Seemed to get more time on ground once Boak was injured which is a silver lining.

Seems to take his time to work into games. In both the Freo and Carlton games he started real slow and then started to catch fire during the second half. Looking for more consistency across quarters from him as the year progresses.

I think he picked up a niggle early against the Crows.
He's only a young player and could have been rested yesterday. It wasn't exactly an all guns on deck type game.

He's top 30 in the league for average clearances despite being a 19yo rookie playing his first handful of games.

More than that, he's allowed the likes of Wines and Ebert to grow an extra leg this year. We have a smashmouth, big bodied, clean disposal starting midfield group and for the first time in what seems like years, we're getting regular clean clearances out that aren't just jammed on the boot.

He topped the clearances last night and only Wines had more contested possessions.

If he needs a rest, rest him. But he's first 22 and we need to play him at AFL level to continue his development and we need to play him at AFL level to give us the greatest chance of winning football games.

He doesn't strike me as the sort of player that would require a rest just for the sake of it.

Injury, sure, give him some time out but other than that, keep him in the team. Absolute beast.

He needs time and some focused tuition about how to time his contact with opponents at stoppage. Reckon he commits to the bump/wrestle too early before the ball is bounced or tossed up. By the time the hitout comes, he seems to have overbalanced or been manouevered a bit too far from the drop zone. When his opponent then gets to the ball, SPP has too much ground to make up.

Despite this, his clearance numbers are exceptional, and he will get better and better.

The two things he can sort out first:
1) not bumping when he should tackle
2) sticking his tackles by using his body not just arms to grab the player
