Player Watch Pick #18 (2016) - Sam Powell-Pepper

If you want to keep Drew you'd probably replace Bergman and Farrell with SSP and Rozee.
Duurs would have to float to HBF if Dan or DBJ need a breather. It might suits Duurs a bit to spend a little less time on the wing as well.
The only question is who pushed out to the wing? And what do we do when Bonner is healthy?

That's a pretty good summation of what would have to happen to fit Drew and Powell-Pepper into the team. With the amount of forward-mid options we have I think Motlop or Rozee could move out to that left wing position if Duursma was covering at half back. If Bonner comes back he replaces Bergman as half-back/wing cover although he is not in my best 22. Ultimately, I feel for team balance only one of Drew or Peps can play as that gives us a well rounded bench rotation of Powell-Pepper, Motlop, Bergman and Ladhams.

No chance I'd play Duursma half back, his confidence is too low atm, the errors he's making it would destroy him.

I agree mate. It's just the hypotheticals of rotation when considering different players in the best 22. X does seem to be low on confidence right now. He isn't impacting contests as much and he is nowhere near as clean with hand or foot as he is at his best.

You have to say who goes out then?

Well we're currently going with 8 defenders (Jonas, Clurey, Aliir, Hartlett, DBJ, Bergman, Burton, Houston) and I realise a few of these guys make their way all over the ground so I think we can afford to lose one. Move Hartlett or Bergman to the medical sub and move SPP in full time.
Farrell goes out for Rozee and we're set.

If Pep was available this week I'd bring him in with Rozee & Marshall, move Drew to medicare sub & drop Rocky, Farrell & Bergman without hesitation.
I think three talls including Ladhams is enough in the forward mix. The reason we are so dangerous is because we have that balance of talls and smalls to vary our mode of attack. Georgiades and Marshall could work but we have to take into account the way we defend from the front- our forwards need to be able to apply serious defensive pressure. People have suggested dropping Ladhams to accommodate the two young gun key forwards but for me Ladhams is invaluable.

Agreed. That would clearly be our best 22.

Been too long, and Drew is in too good form. Has to play SANFL first. Was ready to pick him R1 if the hand was fine, but it's been an additional few weeks now and most of it not even with the club - needs a week atleast.

Not everything is some deep psychological drama some young blokes just find it hard to say no when surrounded by mates.. I'm starting to think a lot of people here had a lily white existence in their teens & early twenties.
Or you like to drink for a bit of fun... Heck knows if I had a job requiring a breatho before shift I wouldn't still be in it. Doesn't mean I have deep issues with substances. I just enjoyed a few nights out or in.

He's clearly going to need to sting a couple of red hot games together in the SANFL, not just because of the match fitness but also to win his spot back and force his way in after not rocking up to training and needing time away to deal with what ever personal issues he had. How much more there is to this, if anything, must will never know.

Currently Drew has clearly taken his spot and hasn't put a foot wrong yer, now its up to SPP to come in and win that spot back. Nothing against Drew but if both are fit and in form SPP is the better player and gets this spot in the starting 22.

Win or lose there has been clear issues with our centre clearance and stoppage work. We’ve relied on a 32 yr old boak to go beast mode to get on top in those areas and against west coast we were smashed. I don’t think we have enough clearance specialists.

wines is a very good mid but he just isn’t a regular 7-10 clearance a game player.

boak can dominate stoppages in patches but is very up and down as a clearance player

gray isn’t the clearance mid he once was

butters is 20 and learning his craft.

drew is 22, learning his craft and is more a defensive specialist and supporting mid at this stage.

the rest are running mids like Amon and rozee who might win a clearance or 2 here and there.

we desperately desperately need to play one of Rocky or spp all season I believe. Unfortunately both will be unavailable for a short while.

Disappointing they don't expect him to be back playing at any level this weekend. Get him straight back in the maggies.

Why? These things can't and shouldn't be rushed.
