As I recall, Clarko had just cleaned house and was specifically after two talls. Just happened there were a couple of reasonable prospects that would go early in the draft.

Normal circumstance would dictate that you take the best player - usually a mid-type. And we would have but for Clarko's intervention.

Had Clarko come along the following year and adopted the same logic, we may have taken Josh Kennedy and still ended up with Dowler. The year after that was flush with talls but few have made it.

We got lucky with the 2004 draft. And that luck has delivered 3 premierships.
Don't agree. We did well in 2004 but other factors I felt have been more important.

I thought we made bad decisions/were unlucky in 2005/2006 and then had to top up with recycled/mature players that all worked beautifully, see Lake, Gunston, Hale, Smith, Gibson, Guerra, Burgoyne, Puopolo, Stratton, Dew, McEvoy, Simpkin... and some lucky later picks e.g. Shiels, Hill, Breust, Suckling...

Naturally, all those decisions have led us to the current glorious state (though only Dew and Goo from that list helped us net 2008), but without Buddy, Rough and Lewis, I'm not sure we'd have any of those 3 flags. They've been a very important trio. Even if one did end up being a traitorous, money grabbing prick.

Lets just hope we steer clear of Tambling....he is'nt the type we need to go for with pick two and will hopefully be gone by pick five. Seems to be a flash in the pan type player to me.

Hope we get Deledio at 2, (otherwise Griffen) and then one of Franklin or Roughead.

Good job Hawks.....you've done well this week. But that's only part 1 of a three part series. We still have national draft and PSD to go.

Do good things !!
- well done sir !!

Amazing drafting by the Hawks. We were suckers to pick Wood, but at least we didn't waste our pick on Tambling! :p

Roughy has been an absolute star for the Hawks and a real culture keeper at the club. He sets such a high standard each year. Buddy is obviously a superstar, but imo Roughy has and always will be more important for the club than Buddy.

I think Tambling is exactly what the Hawks need. Someone flashy with class that gets people back through the gates.

What we need in these dark times (hopefully ending with the 06 season) is someone to get excited about.

We went with Hodge... long term leader.. class, solid, hard instead of the flashy Judd or the in between Ball.

This boy would compliment Hodge and Mitchell in the engine room for 10 years.

Now is the time to go Flashy!
This was so close. We needed a flashy type to get people through the gates. He just picked the wrong indiginous kid that's all.

Amazing effort by Junior who even had the foresight to have the name junior years before the Hawks even got Rioli. Loses one point for getting the number wrong though :D
