Haha no. We have a tagger and Varcoe wouldn't get a kick for Melbourne even on the odd occasion that he is fit.

We need a blue chip midfielder. Doesn't have to be an out and out star but someone who will reliably play games and provide physical support. If we dont get that we should keep the pick.
I agree. Can you name a few examples of players that you might like?

I'm simply pointing out that Armitage is an example of what Mahoney has said that he wants... "If we could add two to three experience midfielders ... they can come into the side and play alongside the already group of young talent we've got, that would be a successful period for us."

Is that so hard to understand?

If the name Armitage offends you so much, substitute it for Myers, Douglas, Savage... they're all realistic examples of players that you might be able to get.

And of course, if the #2 for 2 former top 10 picks in the 2006/7 drafts example that I gave you is so 'obviously' not in Melbourne's favour, how about weighting it differently?
So would you trade your pick 3 away for Myers from Essendon and there second rounder?

We aren't touchy but no one agrees with that trade, why swap pick 2 for a guy that averages around 20 touches over the last two years and pick 22?

Our footy ops manager said that the pick is on the table for the right deal, he didn't say were going to give it away.

It might be highly unlikely to get Sloane or Selwood, if thats the case then we hang onto it and grab Aish.
Fair enough. How about this one....

#2, #22 ,<-------> #3, Armitage

Why wouldn't we just take Cross for nothing over any of those players, and we can pick up myers for a second rounder.

Get two established mids and keep pick 2.

Surely that is better than us using it on Armitage and pick 22 (on traded for Myers).

For the nth time, it is Melbourne's own Footy Ops manager who has stated he is willing to trade #2 and that he wants to get in some mature mids.

For St Kilda's point of view our needs are for quality mids over hard-working ones. We have no Viney or Toumpas coming through. And over the next few years we'll lose Dal, Lenny and Joey. Hence it is imperative for us that we keep any low draft picks in order to obtain that quality.

That said, we also have an age-gap on our list that means we should as a secondary measure look to stock up with 24/25yo mids. So yes, I do think that someone like Myers ought to be on our radar perhaps even for a downgrade of pick #3 via a 3-way deal that would still net us say #6-10.

Melbourne are in a different situation. Yes they want teenage quality, but they need blue-collar as a greater degree of urgency... partly in order that their current teenage guns are able to be protected enough to develop their updoubted potential.

It's a realistic way of looking at it. Of course they are looking for such a player, everyone is. But in reality for every Rockcliff, Shuey (#18), Selwood (#7), Selwood (#22) there are players like Armitage (#9), Myers (#6), Masten (#3) or even Hislop (#20), Swift (#20).

In Armitage and Myers (for example's sake traded for with pick #22) Melbourne get with certainty 2 x 100 game+ players to compliment up and comers like Viney, Toumpas and Trengove (himself no star). Or, Aish might turn out like Scully and push off interstate after 2 years because the on-field culture at Melbourne is so poor. It is exactly that on-field culture that Roos and Mahoney are looking to change by trading #2 for two to three mature mid.s.
If we want Armitage and Myers types, we trade pick ~20 and ~21 or so which we get for Sylvia.

I hear you. But Cross probably only has a year left. Someone like Armitage or Myers has another 100+ games in them.

Any trade for Pick 2 will involve quality not quantity. The right player will be a talented midfielder in their mid to early 20s. The list of players of interest to the Dees is quite small.

If an acceptable trade can not be arranged we will use the pick ourselves.

No he isn't, Armitage is nothing what Mahoney said he wanted for pick 2, which is why your example is a poor one.

Cross may have 1 or 2 years, but in that time someone like Aish can learn and develop in that time. I personally cant see Armitage being involved in a trade for our pick 2 whatever way we look at it.

Over half of Melbourne's list would like to leave, only problem being that none of the other 17 clubs would actually want them! We actually develop our players... But anyway I guess going off the typical Demon fan response I have been fooled yet again and it appears Melbourne are going so well off on and off field. My bad

Good to know you're in with the Melbourne boys. Any other fascinating insights?

You & your dribble again!

Off to bed now young boy!

Remember what happened last time you stayed up too late, you started having nightmares that Paul Roos knocked the lions back as coach & signed with Melbourne!!! Then a lot of your young players said I don't want to play for the lions either & wanted to be traded back to their home state. Mummy then came in & changed your bed sheets because you had wet the bed & told you everything would be ok in the morning!

Morning came & your frightening nightmare had actually happened!

Not going to happen but throwing out a hypothetical.

Would Melbourne sway Pick 2 for Beams? Or would that be unders.
