Here's a few recent top 1-3 midfielder picks: D Swallow, Scully, Trengrove, O'Rourke, Dom Tyson.

Who would you trade now for these guys? I wouldn't trade Shuey, Sloane or Beams for them that's for sure. Maybe Melbourne's best bet is a top 5-15 player at a club with a top 12 pick this year say. That way they get a solid player and say a Salem, Sheed or Marsh or whoever at the draft plus that above average player. Effectively turn pick 2 into two players, one already good plus Bontempelli or whoever who may be as good as Aish anyway.

I don't know what will happen with pick 2 but if we are to get a player we want (The club, not us Sloane fans ) it won't be because a club comes to us with a star for a draft pick. Davey and Sylvia were on 2 long contracts worth a LOT of money. Only Dawes and Clark would be on more. Not many of our players really deserve a pay rise any time soon either, so we have all this cash which we can offer to a player. That player then says they want out of their club/contract.

Do you trade a player who wants out for pick 2 or hold onto him and risk him leaving for a hell of a lot less next season.

That's the only logical way I can see us getting a big name for '2'. If it doesn't work we take it to the draft. We'll develop someone right sooner or later....

Well there's your answer mate. One best 22 player + some of your fringe players doesn't equal pick 2.

By that logic I could offer Bachar Houli + Luke McGuane + Matt White + Ben Griffiths for pick 2.

Pick 2 is going to take something significant to get there. Since the Crows don't have any first rounders to throw into the deal it'd be a Dangerfield or Taylor Walker type player to get you that pick.

With all due respect you would have to come up with something better than pick 2 alone for a player like Dangerfield.

With all due respect you would have to come up with something better than pick 2 alone for a player like Dangerfield.

Yeah players like Dangerfield, Beams etc aren't even worth mentioning. I would be leaning towards the 2nd/3rd mids at teams as possibilities.

You need to meet two criteria to find a player who is the equivalent of pick 1,2 or 3

1) Needs to be an elite player or close to elite - So you are looking at a top 5 player from a club

2) The aforementioned player must have fallen out with his club, or you would have nor eason to trade the player.

Your original post that I commented on had many valid points until your last sentence when you decided to put the boot into MFC.

Every post I have read since by you has been about how bad our club or players are! I'm going to defend my club & point out your clubs glaring deficiencies which you clearly seems oblivious to!

Since your first post you have offered nothing to any discussion & if that's what you want to do, go to the Bay.

Melbourne would get ripped off...heard on the Hawthorn trade thread that Savage and Sheils for Pick 2....I doubt Melbourne would even go for that (you could even throw Sewell in and it would still be a no).

Sewell's what, 29? While he's a quality player, he's much too old for the Dee's age profile to trade for. Free Agency, sure, I'd have him, he's tough as nails. Savage has struggled to make it into Hawthorn's team (which is admittedly a very strong team) and your second rounder is very, very late. Wouldn't take this at all. Maybe if you were to trade all three for an early second round pick, but pick 2? You'd have to give up someone pretty young (ala smith), which you wouldn't want to do, and something else to get you near pick 2. Three second round/third round picks don't equal pick 2.

I think he's the wrong kind of player for us. Need mids, and that's it, really. Honestly I can't see us giving it up at the moment. I see us targeting fringe players (like Roos always has) and offering them 100% game time and that will get us a little bit more competitive, potentially giving away our second/third round picks to get those players, but pick 2 would only go for ones clubs would be unwilling to give up (ie Sloane, Selwood, Swallow etc).

You just don't get it. We are not going to trade pick 2 for quantity. Unless a quality mid in the right age bracket is put on the table, we'll keep pick 2. So stop throwing up ludicrous scenarios.
