Na, we don't want 27/28 year olds for pick 2richie douglas & vince for pick 2
i would do that in a heartbeat
Really? I wouldnt
From a WC perspective you're most likely looking at Aish v 2 of Sheed/Freeman/Acres/Bontempelli/Lennon. Would much rather the 2 players who all have the potential to be better than Aish. Pick 1 however is a different story

Ive watched Aish for 2 years at Norwood. He is better then those mids and would rather him alone over a double of those guys.
Agree, at the moment he is, however I think the 5 I quoted all have the potential to be better. Guarantee you at least 1 of the 5I quoted will become the better player
i respectfully disagree. I believe Aish is going to be one of the elite mids in the AFL and i cant see any of those guys being better but i dont follow those guys as closely
IMO the players available between 2 and 10 are all of too similar ability to part with picks 10 and 11 for pick 2. I guess we will see.
considering pick 2 is really pick 4 given Hogan and Martin were likely to go 1 and 2, certainly Hogan would have gone aT 1 anyway.
Certainly if both Hogan and Martin transferred their VFL and NEAFL form back into what they could've done at under 18 and WAFL then they would've been top 3 with Boyd. We wont ever know which order. After missing out on Buddy GWS would have a really tough call to go with a forward or a gun mid. Patton's knee injuries might have meant they lent towards one of the two big forwards but Martin might have been irresistibly good.I'll see your Hogan and raise you a Martin, Jack is something very very special, I like Hogan but I think we made the right call by taking Martin, he is as smooth as a Barry White serenade.
Been on your list for years and done nothing massive oversThat's unders.
Aish is probably better than most of those mids BUT they are all only kids.Ive watched Aish for 2 years at Norwood. He is better then those mids and would rather him alone over a double of those guys.

Yep. Its the same shit every year but, GWS or whoever say pick 1 or 2 is on the table but its never dealt and thats largely to the offers as well.
It's just genuinely hard to find two clubs agreeing on such a high-pice trade. It's not like years back when Judd wanted to come to Melbourne so there had to be a trade with high draft picks/gun youngsters (Kennedy). Melbourne and GWS don't have any players of that level saying they want to leave, and so we have to shop around the high picks more.
At the end of the day though, if no one is offering something of sufficient value then we'll just keep the pick.
Agree with this
Top 5 picks are generally reserved for superstars (or superstars to be) not better than average midfielders (David Myers, Bernie Vince, Richie Douglas).
If Luke Shuey really did want to come 'home' then Melbourne would be open to suggestions, but they won't be dealing pick 2 for David Myers. (hurt even just typing that). As good as David could/will be, he isn't in that elite trading bracket.
The unfortunate thing is you don't have a first round pick to add to the deal which could get it done. If you finish in true ladder order you could've had pick 12 or so and when combined with a Myers who gets offered more money and a big on field role becomes desperate to move then all of a sudden the deal gets done.
The other problem is that everyone has locked up all their good players due to recent expansion and free agency. So there aren't a cue of decent players at least out of contract that makes them easier to move.
As mentioned by a few, clubs are more reluctant these days to let go of there superstars. It seems like 'homesick' kids are being traded more than actually trying to improve your list.
I also wasn't reffering to Essendon nabbing pick 2. Even packaging pick 22 (which I think will eventuate) with Myers, surely the Demons won't be silly enough to do that.
Pick 2 should be for stars. If Myers could come in and be the no.1 or no.2 player from day dot, then sure, but as it stands, at Essendon, he isn't even a starting midfielder (top 3 mids) and is rotational at best.
I didn't say pick 22 I said pick 12. Maybe a swap of later picks as well. Either way would still be a good deal for Essendon. But as Melbourne have said the picks on the table and we have to get mature talent to avoid another season where our kids sink instead of learn how to swim. It wont be til trade weeks over if it all until we here whether a club did put for a legitimate offer and Melbourne declined it.
Think you're just upset we won't take 3 of your biggest spuds for pick 2. Speaking of karma, enjoy your 3rd round pickThink you are just going to have to face reality. Nobody want to go to Melbourne and play in-front of 15000 then after the game get abused by their own supporters as they walk down the race. Think its called football Karma.
Parker and Lamb and its more likely.Craig Bird and Jed Lamb for pick 2 and we'll agree to let Stuart Dew go to you guys?![]()
Better than getting abused by 35000Think you are just going to have to face reality. Nobody want to go to Melbourne and play in-front of 15000 then after the game get abused by their own supporters as they walk down the race. Think its called football Karma.
St Kilda only have Jack Steven that fits the category and Saints fans wouldn't trade him alone for pick 1, forget Steven + 3.I am surprised that the Bulldogs and Saints haven't tried to trade their pick 3 or 4 for pick 1. Both are in need for a gun tall ( excluded Melb because they are Ok for talls). To do a swap like this doesn't have to be a marquee player, but probably a player rated in the top 5 or 6 in an age range say 22-26. I would do this deal every day of the week. There isn't enough creativity or boldness in trading.
