We can throw in Vlastuin too before he gets too good to fit in our salary cap.
Nah, don't want to rip you guys off. Cotchin will do just fine

The demons need to realise pick 2 will not get a core A grade midfield player from another club for 2 reasons.

He would be worth more than that pick to his current club.

The player would want to go to a rebuilding club.

Example: Pick 2 won't cut it with any of these
Swan/pendle/Beams/steelbum
Cotchin/Dids
Danger/sloane/Douglas
Watson/Heppell/Zaha
Selwood/bartel
Fyfe/barlow/Mundy

Like with the Rockcliff rumour, if he wants to go to Melbourne the lions would talk to you first but if you approach them about Rockcliff for pick 2 they would laugh you off.
If we offered 2 for Douglas, the Crows wouldn't be able to sign quick enough.

Whoops one mistake, But the Dee's would see that as under an wouldn't do it.

Pick 2 will get you a second tier but can develop into a first tier midfield but the demons say those type of players are only worth 2nd round, you need to remember you are gaining a player who most likely was a first round pick with 4-6 years of development.

Christiansen/masten/Myers/Parker/bastinac

I'm pretty sure all those club's would entertain the idea (they might not want too) even if you's feel it's under, they could throw in their second round to seal the deal.

Example
I wouldn't want this to happen but the club would think about this highly.

Myers + pick 22 (dogs/Crameri trade)

For

Pick 2

Would Melbourne agree with that?

No

Pick 2, Pick 18, Jeremy Howe, Colin Sylvia compo

for Taylor Adams and Dylan Shiels?

or

Andrew Gaff and Luke Shuey?

West Coast would then have absolutely nothing in the midfield. In general I can't imagine any side doing something like that - you'd have better luck shopping players/picks around and getting midfielders from two/three separate clubs.

Would Melb do pick 2 for Gaff? - that's the only trade involving us that I could see as feasible.

Maybe we would also add in a pick or a player. For instance trading Rosa or our second/third round pick as well.

The Pies would happily wave good bye to Swan or Sidebottom for pick 2. As would Crows with Douglas, as would Essendon and Zaharakis, as would Cats with Bartel (though doesn't fit Dees reqs anyway)

Don't disagree wiht that, but I am not sure we are after those exact established stars

Sadly for you you need to realise a B grade player and a compo pick won't get you pick 2 either, especially when it's likely if an Essendon player wants out they'll likely go as a FA

A lot of water to go under the bridge but I don't think Essendon has a lot negotiation power atm

Haven't seen enough of Weagles so not sure if he is a first dibs player. Only have vision of Gaff as a hard running receiver but again don't watch a lot of Eagles. Shuey is the one I want. Hannebery gets a lot of press as the next good young'un to crack the elite but IMO Shuey should be held in the same bracket.

However Pick 2 for Gaff and second rounder isn't too bad.

Colyer has re signed and i wouldn't use pick 2 on Myers...so cant see Essendon getting pick 2

Agreed, Gaff is a gun but we need a Grunt and Shuey fits the bill

We'd be after Shuey before Gaff IMO

I extremely doubt Essendon would for Zaha, an pies for sidebum.

It was just a rough list, an remember you're after a CONTRACTED player and that player will have to AGREE with that trade too. That's two check points you must pass first.

Essendon has plenty, picks aren't a priority and Heppell an Zaha were Essendon supporters so doubt they would leave under any circumstances besides a G Ablett cash grab.

Again I agree with what you've said - the point you are not taking on board is that CONTRACTED Essendon players might have the option to walk away from their Essendon contract

I don't believe it's been ratifed by the AFL yet.... but whos side do you think the AFL will lean if Essendon enforce a contract and don't let a player go to another club? I don't think either of us can answer that now but there is a rumor that players can walk and Essendon have said they won't stop them leaving if they choose

So in summary sadly for Essendon your bargaining power may be limited

Edit: Just to add

I don't htink clubs will hold essendon to ransom but you never know whats possible

Free agency started today, don't you think if any players were planning on what you are dreaming about it would have been announced that they were all free agents, guess we stick together, now back to reality....So you care to deal, happy knowing Peter jackson is in control, should see a good deal done...;)

Hot Topic Board mate, this is the trade board...

My guess would be that Gaff would be one of the realistic best case scenarios for pick 2 from a Melbourne point of view.
I just can't see teams willing to give up their young Gun midfielders.

I rate Gaff and think he will become a gun but he probably isn't quite worth pick 2 in normal situations. With Melbourne though, it's clear that they need more AFL ready midfielders so it could be a genuine win/win situation.

Agreed, Gaff is a gun but we need a Grunt and Shuey fits the bill

We'd be after Shuey before Gaff IMO

Unfortunately there no way we trade him. The midfield is also our weakness and Shuey is really our only mid that offers a point of difference in what is otherwise quite a vanilla bunch of players. Of our younger mids Gaff is the only one I can see being traded for two reasons:
1. WC may have worries about keeping him long term. (Gaff btw was a Melbourne supporter growing up)
2. They think what they would get with pick 2 has a higher ceiling and are willing to take a short term hit for the sake of the long term.

You are right though if you need grunt Gaff is not that guy. What he does have is a few years of development at a club which has a reputation for fairly good development. You essentially pay overs for the option to forego the initial years of lower output you'd have to cop going into the draft.

You are not getting pick 2 by offering up that garbage

Myers is decent, Colyer is garbage

So you want the Demons to swap pick 2 for 22 and gain two plodders

Laughable

If Essendon wanted pick 2 they would have to give us Watson, Heppell or Hurley

We dont want anyone else on your team, and they still have ASADA hanging over their head so you would need to add pick 22 with any of those guys
Don't forget he/she wants pick ~36 back also! lol

Nice first post mate, welcome to big footy, I get the feeling you're not new here.

How did Myers go from being decent to a plodder in one breath, type slowly please..
I'm happy that Roos is interested in Myers/Colyer and equally happy your club is being run by Peter Jackson, who will always have a love for our club also, looks like we can be good friends in trade week...

Haha watch this space mate

You're more then welcome to make an offer for pick 2 - but I'm pretty confident we'll get better then Colyer or Myers or whatever B/C grader your offering and 22

Dream up though - we'll find out in a week or 2

Haha PJ will have no pull in trade week mate, sorry to burst your bubble. You guys want in to the first two rounds prepare to cough up to whatever team it is your dealing with.
