Pick 2

Oh course teams are built at the draft but the players these delusional Melbourne supporters are suggesting are from teams that aren't in full rebuild, they will be wanting to push into the 8 next year and they won't give up any player required in their best 12-14 for pick 2. The best from Essendon they would get would be Myers, Hibberd, Stanton (an I do doubt any of them would agree to it if they want to stay at Essendon) but we would use that pick two to try and get shuey if we could get in his ear wanting to play with his best mate Zaha.
Then obviously they keep pick 2, I'm sure Melbourne won't be gutted at the end of the day if they don't get a quality player and end up using it, I was stating its value and worth at thy trade table, not what other clubs would be willing to give for it.

If premierships are only won at the draft table then explain Gibson, Hale, Gunston, Burgoyne, Lake, Guerra this year. Doubt we would have won a premiership without those guys playing.

Gunston and Hale were probably the players of the finals series for Hawthorn, we wouldn't have won the PF without Burgoyne, Lake won the Norm Smith and Gibson and Guerra played brilliantly all year.
And how would have hawthorn gone all these years without hodge, Lewis, roughead, franklin? If you didn't get a number one pick and two key forwards with picks 2 and 5, you wouldn't even be up the top to begin with regardless of who you traded for. The guys you snagged early in the draft are the guys you built your premierships around, you traded the others in to mould around them.

It's not delusional to want the high class player that pick two is worth. Most Melbourne supporters understand it's not an easy pick to trade because you need a club to be willing to part with a really decent player.

But if we are serious about this trade we wont be approaching clubs, we will be approaching managers of players and offering them the deal of money and a broad range of opportunities - to play a particular role, for leadership, for off field prominence as a star recruit. It's why most of the names Melbourne supporters have brought up have been interstate players because the opportunity to go home would be part of the package.

Clubs wont want to trade very good young players. But if a very good young player goes to their club and says I know I'm contracted but I really wish to go to Melbourne and they are willing to give you pick 2 then that certainly would change things.
I think your nuts to trade pick 2 to be frank, given the sort of player you will be able to gain for 10-12 years of very good- elite service, also given your club is 3-5 years away at least from even pushing for top four, I would have thought just keep developing and drafting as much as possible, don't settle for some other clubs 10-20th player for a potential 10 year star

Yes you are, Roos stated he wants to inject some experience bodies into the midfield asap.
Given essendon are out of the draft for two seasons, I would have thought you'd be desperate to throw yourself and a good player in the ring to grab that number two pick, if Geelong was missing out on two drafts in a row and we weren't in contention for a premiership, I would be throwing a good player at pick 2, just like hawthorn did with croad to get hodge

If Shuey wants to go to Victoria then its a fair price. I would hate to lose him and I doubt James Aish is a better prospect.

I think pick 2 is a little overpriced but if our current situation it would be fair. Perhaps a swap of later round picks as well.

It makes an absolute joke of our prior drafting, Prendagast was an absolute goose.

Nope, would be a straight swap for pick 2 or nothing at all. I doubt it will happen anyway, the article is just a media beatup.

True, I can't imagine Eagles being happy about letting a talent like Shuey go easily.

I just watched an interview with Todd Viney and he said there has been several clubs in discussions with them, but I got the impression that they'll probably end up keeping it. They continue to interview the top kids so that would be my guess.

If Shuey wants out then Shuey + Ash Smith for 2.

Smith was a Demons fan and wanted to end up there when drafted.

Smith IMO is surplus to our requirements. Shuey would be a massive loss though.

If shuey can be shaken loose from the eagles then i think he is probably the best we can realistically get with pick 2, i cant see too many better players wanting out. whether we put pick 2 on the table for him is up for debate but i wouldnt be unhappy with it at all. If steak knives had to be involved, Paul Roos likes his running back flankers so smith might be a good choice

Would do that in a heart beat

Would love Shuey at the Dees and pick 2 is more the fair (im sure later picks etc would be swapped)

Would Shuey & Gaff for pick 2, Blease and maybe 21 be over the top?

Based on Melbourne's recent history with low draft picks I wouldn't be surprised at all if they traded 2 for a known quantity that they could contract immediately for A 4 year deal.

Melbourne also need quality experienced players who can make an impact straight away and for Roos to sell hope with actual on field improvement next season not 2 or 3 years away.

I'd do it if they take Pedersen too, and keep Smith

Caddy has sown heaps actually and will be around our club for ten+ years, we were very happy with his season.

Premierships are won at the draft table, not at the trade table, besides Sydney( and we all know how and why), tell me who else are these teams to win premierships without huge help from a high draft pick? Hawthorn had multiple high draft picks that they moulded a premiership around, franklin and roughead, collingwood had didak Thomas Luke ball Ben Reid, Thomas was a very big player in their premiership year, that st kilda team that came so close had a handful of early draft picks, west coast had Chris Judd, Brisbane had a host of special concessions and early draft picks. Going to the draft with an early pick is huge in the long run for premiership success, not giving them away for a senior Solid B grader

Premierships are won at the draft table and with the infusion of good astute trades when it counts.

Sydney - say no more.
Hawthorn - had 5>6 players from trades play a massive role.
Eagles - topped up with Stenglien and Chick when it mattered.
Collingwood 2010 - Ball, Jolly, Brown
Brisbane 2003 - A Lynch, Mal Michael, M Pike, B Caracella

I did note however that Geelong was devoid of any traded in talent for its last 3 flags which is interesting and where you have built your view on this matter. Great drafting and developing by the Cats.:thumbsu:
