Would love the Suns to have been bold this period and say bundle 18 & 23 together for a pick 13ish, and then offer Luke Russell, Matty Shaw & the pick 13ish for pick 2.

2 x quality mids in that 21/22yo age bracket with a few pre-seasons under their belts that would provide instant impact for the Dees. We simply have too many young mids/wings and not enough spots on the field. From next season these guys will be getting pissed from lack of opportunity.

Obviously Dees would want a Swallow or similar, but according to him and us, that won't happen in the foreseeable future.

Suns could then walk away with Martin, 2, 5 and use their 3rd rounder for a local Qld academy player this period.

Haha good one. Luke Russell isn't up to it and I like Shaw but he's only average at best. Going to need more than that with your pick 13. To go with pick 13 you need a player (or players) that equal pick 10 to combine up to pick 2. Russell isn't worth a 3rd round and Shaw might fetch a second rounder if someone was really interested in him but that's it.

27, 28 in May plus he's either a forward or defender. Never really shown to me he can play consistently in the midfield.

I'm not sure his value is anywhere near pick 2 and I'd have him as the same value as Heath Shaw. That could be a decent swap actually. If Carlton wanted pick 2 for Walker I'd suggest they add their first pick in as well at least.

The problem is they cascade into other rumours. If Walker did really want out then a Shaw for Walker swap makes sense to me. I know Bucks wants to get younger but Walker might be too good to refuse. And if Carlton are unexpectedly losing Walker then they could be interested in Shaw.

The problem is all it takes is one rubbish rumour to start somewhere and everything keeps going.

More likely the compensation pick we get for Sylvia. Both recruited in the same draft (2003). Walker was pick 2 and Sylvia pick 3. However we need a mid not another utility. Use the pick on a mid!!!

We have pick 5, in the last 10 years that has produced players the calibre of Buddy, Pendlebury and (i think) Boak, we should hold what we have and just use the picks at our disposal, with Jack Martin (Likely No 1) and pick 5 we will be added two very handy players to a list already bursting with young talent.

The issue for Melbourne is that there is no standout for pick 2. Its Boyd and then about 2-4 players depending on who you listen to. Will make it hard to convince a club to part with a gun mid.

I agree. Pick 5 could easily end up as good as pick 2. Not a lot of difference. I suspect we will end up keeping pick 2 by default, ie no good deal offered. We need to get an experienced mid/s in but where from?? They only want to go to the top clubs!!!!

You not looking for elite as in a straight trade Pick 1 for gun/elite player, but a rather good player. A Montagna/Fisher get the deal done.

This is spot on, if we can work out a deal that involves maybe 2 players for our pick two then that would work.

Otherwise if we offered a player up with our pick 2 for a better player.

Both options will depend on what is offered and if anyone is after anyone from our list.

I just can't see any scenario where a trade happens. The only scenarios I see are a very good player under 27, decides he wants out of his club and wants to go to Melbourne .... hmmm unlikely? I dont see any Chris Judd's at interstate clubs who want to move back to Melbourne.

Or a club decides they want to get rid of multiple promising young players and take their chances on the pick. I hear people mentioning Parker and Lamb from our club or something like that. Why would Sydney give up a contracted player like Parker to take their chances on pick 2?

Try and talk them into going to the AFL retirement village better known as the MFC. Reports are strong Aish does not want to become a Demon ( which surprised me with Roos at the helm ) Demons might be getting desperate.
