Why on earth would the giants want pick 2?

In case that was a real question, so we can improve our first 22 while cutting our list size.

The proposed deal moves two not-current-best-22 players and our #10-ish pick for a #2 - in effect, three top 10 picks for a #2.

Its already clear no team is prepared to offer a realistic player for the #1 or #2 pick, and if they did, then we've committed the cap room that would meet their personal terms.

Am I happy about shopping two players who dont want to leave ? No.

But I can I see the point of Sos doing so.

Why on earth would the giants want pick 2?

Because they have a whole bunch of decent young players who over time will fan out in to either consistent quality starters, decent players, depth or not make it.

That's the reality with guys like Bugg and Buntine right now. Could be very good or could not even make it.

If you look at the players on their list shorter than 190cm they have up to about 20 who have either shown something or were really high draft picks.

What they need is to make sure they get the absolute guns to they can compete with the O'Meara and Martin's at Gold Coast. Best way to do that is to give up a couple who may or may not make it in return for pick 2.

Melbourne on the other hand need depth of young (preferably midfield) talent. We need the stars as well but I think Roos is certainly more of a bring in quality depth and then see what he can make of Hogan, Viney, Toumpas and Watts. It might also be that GWS really rate a standout player at pick 2, where as Melbourne, knowing Boyd goes at 1, McDonald goes to North, rate quite a few players level in talent and think 1 of them will be there at pick 9.

What would it take from Richmond if GWS sent Tyson to us and we sent something to Melbourne?

If you don't have enough to deal directly with GWS for him then you wouldn't get him through us, he is a young mid that has talent....something we are desperate for.

Got to spread the talent. Can't have a whole generation of players drafted over a year or two. Trading a 4th/5th choice mid in the order now for someone who can be there for a few more years and even lead the club is a good call. Tyson seems to fit the bracket.

Nothing that you'd be willing to give up. Cotchin, Deledio, Vlastuin etc.

I have a feeling that Roos wants Freeman (good chance he is there at 9) anyway so this wouldn't be silly.

But where is all this talk "we want quality over quantity" ? Think some of us pointed out days ago you MFC supporters ( including your MFC trolls which I dont think you are one by the way ) were dreaming. Freeman probably only 50/50 to be there by 9. Bugg & Buntine I can see quantity but not sure that much quality.

Buntine was a top pick 5 a few years ago so there must be some quality to the kid, and Bugg I think was a pre selection player?

Freeman/Crouch one should be there, we need an in an under clearance player.

I think most of us were talking 'quality over quantity' in regards to supporters coming in and packaging 3 or 4 players that wouldn't crack their best 22.

In the end I think the selling point is pick 9 especially if you can throw a blanket over the kids from pick 2 down to 10.

Who would the Giants be after?

Boyd and Scharenberg? Aish? Billings? Go for a bolter in Bontempelli?
I reckon it's Scharenberg or Billings, they have a Josh Kelly type already in Whitfield but their medium-tall defensive stocks are average so Scharenberg seems logical, Devon Smith is their only true HFF/Mid type so Billings could add to that for them.

Ridiculous:rolleyes: Tyson has done nothing at AFL level. Cotchin and Deledio are A grade and Vlastuin had an awesome 1st year who anyone can see will be A grade. Our 1st round pick would be enough.

Didn't you guys try and give them Pick 9 last year when he wanted to leave, for which they said no to, and now you're offering them pick 12 for a guy that wants to stay there? Don't think it would be.

Could replace either Bugg or Buntine in this potential trade with Tyson then swap him to Richmond for your first round pick.

Sold. Last year I think we got lucky "missing out" on him and getting Vlastuin instead. Not sure we could get someone better with pick 12. The guys we like are every chance to be gone outside Salem who is probably less than 50/50 to be there.

Since then he's had a serious knee injury and has played stuff all............pick 12 would do just fine.
Far more realistic than Cotchin/Deledio/Vlastuin. That's just pathetic!
