No doubt we need to recruit a ruck but there will likely be some available in the rookie draft or as late picks. And potentially a couple of taller mature players will be picked late/rookie. Stewart and House are certainly chances to get drafted. And they'd all be handy players to try and develop for the future.
But other than Stewart none will be playing afl next year. So I don't think it's going to dramatically change the clubs fortune.
In order to have some cover in the ruck they'd really have needed to get a mature ruck. They haven't and likely won't which is a bit of a concern. Personally I would have kept Lucey but they've got high hopes for the new Irishman and academy players coming through.
No interest in Falcon Sean Darcy?

Buckenara says: A South Australian, Hayward has uncanny skills but isn’t the greatest kick. He’s a player who has got that athleticism clubs like — he’s a 2.94 second 20m sprinter and his vertical leap is very good, ranking third at the combine. His kicking and his physical strength isn’t where it needs to be but he does have some traits. I’d like to see him concentrate on his ball use a bit more because he can do some clever things.

Seems His kicking isn't first class

With all due respect, I don't think Buckenara has a clue about this draft crop. Just had a look at his ratings and he said Harry Morrison is slow, and Josh Battle needs to improve his fitness. Didn't bother reading past that.

I stand by my statement on Hayward's kicking.

His excerpt in today's HS has some interesting ratings. Witherden, Battle, Marshall, Powell-Pepper and C.Cox all out of his top 25. As you say, some of his descriptions are also equally perplexing.

Yes but he won't be ready to play next year if needed.
We don't need him next year at all right now- Smith, Stanley, Blicavs, but injuries could test . Who are our VFL rucks?

Probably ryan abbott (vfl listed) and buzza.

Need to draft darcy cameron.

Does anyone else like the look of Dylan Clarke for our pick 24?

Watched a few of his highlights and the opinion descriptions of him. His contested ball use and work in congestion is freakishly good!! Looks good in a marking contest for a midfielder too. Has a San Mitchell feel about his work and style.

Anyone else keen?

Would prefer Scharenberg if we're going inside mids. But certainly wouldn't be disappointed with Clarke either.

I hope we just go best available on the day.

I don't like the feel early on of going for needs over best there. You end up with Mitch Thorpe over Joel Selwood type scenarios too often than not.

The view should be not what we need immediately, but the best 10+years 200+ game player to serve our club long term.

I'd use a late draft pick and get Tony Olango as a ruck option, has great leap, strong tap, very athletic and can sprint, looks like an ideal project ruck player.

As for pick 24, I don't think the KPFs are that great in this draft, so I'd probably recruit B Cox as a KPD. That will give us a great core for the back half with Gardner, Kolo and Cox as the three talls for the next 10 years.

If Kerr slips to us at pick 38, then pick him there, which is very likely. I don't think he will set the world on fire at AFL level, but he might be a 30-40 goal per season player, like a Jay Schulz type.

I'd use pick 42 for William Drew, looks like a handy midfielder.

Tom Stewart if he drops to 63, as defender depth. Could release Tuohy to play as a winger.

Olango with pick 71.

Ruggles to upgrade with last pick.

That's my go unless Ridley is available, which I'm now fast losing confidence. Have a feeling that Wells might go for SPP though which would be a good get also imo.

Agree re Olango. Watched him over the weekend in the All Stars game and think he could be something special. Might be gone by a pick in the 70s. Would be happy to use our 60s pick.

I want some sliders to happen for us

At Pick 24 - Jarod Berry , probs won't happen but you can dream, Sam Powell Pepper I hope if available
At Pick 38 - Cedric Cox , really hope he lasts if not, Brennan Cox or Sam Walker

Would also like to see Stewart and Atkins taken

Would love Battle but think he's bolted ahead of Marshall now and won't get near our pick, Marshall is a good long term pick who will probably be there abouts at our pick now.

I get the feeling that Lucy will be re rookied

I doubt it, he is outside the normal rookie list so is a 'free list spot' so if we wanted to keep him we would have.

He is an elite runner but i dont think we need another inside mid and i am worried about guys not getting opportunities and then being traded for very little (see kersten etc). Would be a strange pick for me.
