Pick 27

A Burton slider with a side of Johnson & Hardwick please.
Don't hold your breath for Burton to slide far, especially in to the 30's for us. This was just posted on the drafts board:
The Carlton recruiting team were in Adelaide today to visit the Burton household.

We're very keen on him at #11 (and have been for a while.)

... but because of Adelaide's Pick #9 we'll probably look to take him at #8.
C4 is usually on the money with his info, sadly in this case :(

Yeah I saw that too. Blues have multiple chances to take him too with 8,11 and 19. If they want him they should be able to get him unfortunately.

He the Type they Need. Poor Bloke

I'm still struggling with people saying our pick 27 may become 31 or somewhere around there because of academy or F/S bidding. If any team has to use picks before 27 for their academy or F/S prospects to make up the points required, pick 27 come in, correct?? As per the item below:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...e/news-story/28e18ae3d99bfa88d6791c77bc79521e

"If the Lions bid pick No. 2 on one of Greater Western Sydney’s academy guns Jacob Hopper or Matthew Kennedy, the Giants would almost certainly match the bid and cash in picks 10 and 34 to secure the player.

Brisbane would subsequently watch its five straight picks from 38 to 42 shuffle up the order two places each, as the GWS picks evaporate to accommodate matching the earlier bid."

In this case if they use pick 10 then our 27 becomes 26, doesn't it? And pick 66 or whatever becomes 64?

Yes, but the Lions and Sydney have prospects too, and they've traded out of the early draft. So you'll find that Mills, Keays, Hipwood, and Hopper will see Brisbane, Sydney and GWS trading in their later picks to jump up in to the first round, thus pushing our pick back in to the 30's.

Just off the top of my head I'd have thought Ray & Tony Shaw, Ronnie Wearmouth, Barry Price, Georgie Bissett at the Pies. They could all play a bit. League wide there have been heaps. You would expect the numbers to decline as the average height of the population rises but there is still a place for an Eddie Betts or a Boomer Harvey and their height doesn't determine football ability.

Maybe Libba and didn't Lewis Taylor win the rising star last year?

I kind of like the look of Hibberd. A tall running backman/wing who can kick the footy.

Then how can this quote be true? It says that GWS will have to use 10 and 34 and therefore Brisbane's later pick will be 2 picks earlier?? Anyway I'll wait and see what happens on the evening. I don't think they are trading their picks for a first round pick-it's all about the points:

Because the two picks from GWS are earlier than Brisbanes picks, they'll essentially move up, as will everyone after pick 34, although I only make it as 1 spot, not two.

Everyone with a pick earlier than 34 will be leapfrogged, but as they're using pick 10 too, the only clubs moved back will be between 2 and 9.

I love these phantom drafts and how they seem to change every week despite no combine, no testing, no games etc. being played.

The most interesting phantoms though are the ones 1-2 days before, or even the same day as the draft itself.

Last year Cal Twomey had us linked to Laverde from the day Brisbane gave us pick 5, right up until nearly draft day. From memory at least.

Then obviously things start coming out and about, because an hour prior to the draft we had a fair idea we were likely to get DeGoey. Which was interesting because it gave us all a chance to debate his selection prior to it actually happening.

Interesting as to how it pans out this year.

Finding it really hard to give a shit who we take this year. With all the downplaying of the talent in the draft, I feel that we made our play in trade week. Usually I'm counting down the days like a kid anticipating Christmas, but I just haven't got the bug this year. Of course I'll tune in on the day, but until then its all just a bit meh imo

They stuffed it up they'd move up the draft order one pick.

By matching with 10 & 34 GWS get pick 2 on draft night for Hopper. Brisbane get shuffled back to pick 3 and GWS receive a pick back later in the draft.

If that later pick falls beyond 42 all of those picks move forward one selection. Our remains where it is under that scenario.

The best way to look at it is if multiple picks after yours are used you get pushed back, but if multiple picks before yours are used you get moved forward.

Yeah I can't get too excited about pick 30ish in a weak draft. We might pick up a Hine special but really, we're probably going to land two or three VFL players and might get one who can crack the seniors. Might. Either a crazy slider like Beams (very unlikely) or someone like Marsh who was overlooked for his supposed flaws.

We unwrapped most of our presents on the first day of preseason!

It's all too complex for a simple country lad like myself, think I'll just wait for the draft and see how it plays out.

The Lions could also then go and bid on Mills at pick 3, though. I know that wasn't mentioned in the article, so yeah they did make the mistake but it could happen that way.

They won't though, it's all hyperbole for mine.
