Pick 27

It takes a while for the draft predictions to get close, most will be in positions as to where they are thought to go, there is always a few bolters and some drifters, with the academy kids and bidding coming in etc, we will know roughly who will be around the mark come a week out from the draft

My order of preference is:

Kerbatiah: been on his bandwagon for a few months since Snoop Dog speculated on him in his list management thread.

Clarke: I think he has the tools that we need to compliment the midfield mix we've already put together. It's questionable whether he slides this far though.

Brown: IMO, he's clearly the best state league player on offer. I think he could come in and outperform White from day dot and he fits our list profile well because we lack players in the 22-26 age bracket.

McKay. B: more raw than his brother, but I like what he has to work with and on draft day he'll be 17 so is a youngin' in this draft class.

Any of those four would address our needs and be there or thereabouts for best available. As long as we prioritise speed, skill and height I'll be a happy man.

Definitely not. That was the mistake we made with Kennedy. Our needs are a tall forward we can develop into a second ruck. Our other need is a small crumbing forward. Those are the players we should be targeting.
Kennedy wasnt a mistake then.
Now it would be, (hi melbourne),
Unfortunately picking draft picks is based onjudgment liking picking yearlings ata horse sale.
Sometimes they just dont get to where the judgment was.
Bottom line is getting more value from picks than not

Clark seems likely type.
A lot better judges than me abound.

Im happy to see what hine and rendell get
And pre that, im interested in knightmare thoughts as hes got well balanced knowledge and smarts

Callum Twomey has an article up on the AFL site this morning talking about who is in the mix for each club at their 1st selection.

For us at 27 he has Brayden Fiorini, Josh Dunkley, Mason Redman and Alex Morgan.

I know that Dunkley is a possible Swans F/S but haven't seen any of the others mentioned around our draft threads. Anyone know much about them?

Snoop Dog you were trying to find out more about Redman a few weeks back. Any insight on he and the others?

Knightmare could you possible share some insights?

Where is Weideman going?

He's not relevant to the topic so let's not speculate on a kid that would have no interest from this board if his last name weren't Weideman...

Look he sounds solid but we aren't lacking in 186cm mid/utility types so I would personally prefer we looked to fill a positional need first. Although if Hine and crew think he is best available and can't be passed up then happy to defer to their expertise.

Look they project him there between 20 & 30 but he doesn't scream out to me as a player that Hine would make sure we got back into the top 30 for.

Past history has shown we haven't recruited a lot from the Northern Knights either. Not sure why? We had the Shaw cousins and wanted the Bont but I can't recall to many others in the last 10 years.

What I did like was that he has a good outside game, a line breaker, an excellent left foot kick and was VC at the Knights which shows leadership capabilities. He was tracking at 87% DE early in the season whilst pumping out very solid possession numbers.

His name will be one I keep an eye on from here.

Outside ability is something we need to address so I would personally take the view that he fits a positional need. He has skill as well so that for me is another good list fit.

The question mark I have was his reliance on others to feed him the ball. Now that's fine if he has a Gaff/ Stanton motor, but Schoenfield looks to be the only bloke in this draft that has those sort of wheels. Therefore if he's only average on the spread by AFL standards how do we make use of him on the outside?

With our focus on guys who can win their own ball for as far back as I can remember he'll be an interesting one to track for us. I also should have added to my previous post that I don't expect us to take Kerbatiah if he's there.

Our pick 27 actually works out to be pick 31 once you factor in the 5 academy/father sons (Keays, Hipwood, Hooper, Mills and Kennedy) only GWS have a pick before 27 hence why it slips back to 31. However pick 66 goes up to around pick 47-50 once you factor in picks used for points. I think there is a possibility we will find 2 maybe even three players we are confident in developing over 2 years. This is where recruiters earn their money in a weak draft by identifying the non obvious "paul seedsman" type that can become a potential AFL player.

Still? Hope that's how you spell his name from our magoos?

Yes, that's how you spell it.

He used to be on Essendon's senior list and was delisted a few years ago.

Mason Redman is interesting. He is a tall flanker/outside type. Moves well for someone his height, uses it reasonably well by hand and foot. Showed through the u18 championships that he can offer some scoreboard impact. Improved through the u18 championships and over the second half of the season mostly at reserves level and also receiving two league games.

So there are some encouraging signs that suggest maybe.

Where is Weideman going?

Probably Essendon at 4/5. Melbourne may before or after Essendon take him. Maybe Gold Coast.

They're the three clubs I see as being in the mix for Weideman.
