Pick 27

The only person I've seen link is to him is Gary Buckenara. I'd regard that as a whimper rather than a rumble.

Someone on Nicks said he Knows that Hine has Talked to his Family a Few Times.

Well except for that. I seen us linked to no one

RUCKS: Brodie Grundy, Jarrod Witts, Mason Cox (rookie).

The Pies have five spots to fill but will probably go into next year two short, unless a player they rate highly happens to still be on the board when their fourth pick comes around. As bids for academy players are matched by the northern clubs, their second and third picks could end up moving into the late 40s-early 50s. They paid plenty for Treloar but know exactly what he can and should deliver for a number of years, and Aish was right in their mix two years ago when they opted for Scharenberg so they'll have high hopes for where he can go from here. The Pies haven't got a genuine crumbing forward on their list, and that might be something they look for late, particularly if they plan to use Elliott higher up the ground at times.

It's hard to anticipate who'll be available at their picks, but Jade Gresham and Daniel Rioli would be chances if they happened to get that through to 27. Those two would also bring pace and polish, filling another potential list need, though Treloar will instantly add some of that. Aidyn Johnson, David Cuningham, Alex Morgan move the ball at speed, and may be around the mark at 27. So too Luke Partington, with Brayden Fiorini, Tom Phillips and Tom Doedee other options. Brandon White has good pace too, though has used it more off half-back to date.

If there's one other thing the Pies could do with it's probably a tall forward or back. Of course, this depends a bit on where they see Moore ending up, and who's available. It's hard to see Ryan Burton getting that far, but Ben McKay might be there, and at pick 27 would certainly be worth consideration. The quirky Callum Moore is also worth a look and they could consider bidding for GWS player Harry Himmelberg, if someone hasn't gotten in first.

The Rumbles that Hine is Keen on Tom Doedee:

Sounds like a Hine Type being a Basketballer but don't we already have Toovey,Ramsey,Maynard and Schranberg playing those Postions?

He looks and sounds ok and if Hine and crew think he's the best at 27 then so be it. I still hope we get an unexpected highly rated slider at 27 and then we can look to someone like Doedee at our 2nd or 3rd if he's still there.

My gameplan for thus draft is to sure up the forwardline.

Ultimate being Burton, Johnson, Hardwick. Fat chance of that.

@ 27 one of Burton, Rioli, McKay, Crocker
@ 66 & 77 atleast 1 of Hardwick or Kerbatieh (preferably Hardwick)

Another tall would be great, if they offer more than depth [Crocker, B. McKay (?)]; otherwise, an effective crumbing forward - hoping for one more genuine best 22 prospect.

Lol'd hard at the Matthew Kennedy preview.

Han Solo is going to be the mentor like Obi-Wan was then die, then Luke Skywalker is going to be the Yoda-like super mentor, anyways that's what I'm predicting.

We commence Draft day with pick 27.
However as the draft progresses & clubs bid for Academy players, then if the Academy club matches the bid, they will effectively move up the draft order, which will in turn push our pick back.
How far we slide back depends upon how many academy players involved with bids & matching prior to our pick.
Most think it will be 4 to 5 places.

Basically, we are a bunch of sheep. Under the old system, we would have called it pick 27 and ignored the father son/academy kids, but because we are now told within the draft what selection they go for, we now don't ignore them and push our pick back. We then adjust our later picks forward, becasue some dead picks are used to get points for academy kids, even though we never previously took this approach when clubs passed or upgraded rookies.

This year's pick 27 is the same as any other year's pick 27. It's a hit and miss pick. Just like 31 would be.

I hope they take a 'high-risk/high-reward type' rather than a 'safe half back type' selection.

Or if you're on the scouting team of the Denver Broncos, it might actually climb him up your draft board...

On the selection of Jay Cutler in 2006;

It was an off-the-field incident his freshman year that forced him to miss his only game, a misdemeanor charge for underage drinking. Our staff actually liked that fact. It gave him some edge.

Drinking underage.. now THAT'S an edgy kid.
I know, right? It's not like every single American kid in college does exactly the same thing due to the ludicrous minimum drinking age of 21 :D

The difference this year is as follows:
- there are 5 to 6 players (academy & f/s) that may go 1st round or early 2nd round
- 3 of them may even go TOP 10
- academy clubs traded out some 1st round picks (to buy more points), giving other clubs a cheaper 1st round pick.
- academy clubs can bid on 1st round talent with late picks

So the pure number (players) of TOP end talent probably not available...this year is up.
That talent can be purchased more cheaply (in more recent years you would have been forced to use your 1st round pick e.g Moore, now you can trade out your 1st round pick, hence somebody else still gets to use it).
So that 1st round pick, instead of being burnt, is still around, soaking up more high end talent.
This new system definitely 'weakens' pick 27 compared to other years, whilst strengthening pick 50 & above (approximately).
