Pick 27

GWS haven't said they'll get or even bid on Himmelberg. His kicking has put me off a bit.

Himmelberg's kicking was poor through the u18 championships. But much improved late season with a clearly better technique both on field kicks and set shots. So that area of his game has further scope to improve (which rarely is the case but I'll give Himmelberg the benefit of the doubt as he is newish to AFL).

Got to fill needs at pick 27, I'd take the best mature aged outside player with speed. Any suggestions from the WAFL/SANFL/VFL?

Nathan Broad may be the first mature ager selected. As a tall running backman. I'm just not a fan with his footskills while less bad, still not great.

As for who I would recommend as a mature ager. Not that I'd use pick 27 on him. But Marcus Adams as a super athletic, but powerful and high level intercept marking key defender is someone I feel is very draftable and with our second selection is someone I'd be willing to take if available.

Michael Hartley, Mitch Brown, Sam Menagola, Josh Wagner, Chis Jansen, Andrew Galluci, Tom Keough, Kaine Stevens, Jonathon Beech are those others I'd be open to exploring.

Legend, thanks for that info!

So Twomeys' final phantom draft is up on AFL.com.

Luke Partington sounds interesting at 30.

'You can count on Partington to give his all. The midfielder works hard and puts his head over the ball at the stoppages and isn't afraid to cop a knock when he does. But he also showed his ability to burst off from a clearance this year, being one of the most consistent and prolific players for South Australia at the under-18 championships. That added pace (he ran 2.96 seconds over 20m at the combine) showed Partington's midfield mix. If players were drafted purely on character, Partington would be in the top-10. The resilient and determined teenager worked through a personal tragedy this year and still managed to establish himself as a prospect in the second round.'

The last part is fascinating, gave it his everything through tragedy, Bucks and Hine seem to love blokes with character, heavy resilience and consistency, they also seem to love hard working South Australians, isn't Aish also a Norwood boy?

After losing Freeman, could be another project player with speed and character, both of which I personally love, anyone know more about him?

Yeah I read the Twomey piece with interest this morning too. Partington sounds like he could be a younger replacement for Sam Dwyer. No frills, hard working, doesn't mind getting his hands dirty and can finish when required. Partington probably gets more of it though.

I'd be happy with Partington if he was considered by our recruiting team to be the best left on the board come our pick.

Obviously this top 30 list from Cal is just his rankings of each player not what order he thinks they will end up. There are 5 academy players in his list so if this held true to form then our pick 27 would move back to 32. If Himmelberg or Dunkley (Swans F/S) sneak in there it will be 33 or 34.

Also found it interesting that Cal does not have us linked to any of these players in his little spiels. We are either keeping our hand close to our chest, will take the best slider or we have a smokey not in top 30 calculations.

Can't wait to find out.

That reads like the kid can't kick for shit!

What about Sub-175cm's? I can not think of many Below 175cm then been good. Can only think of Boomer and Blairy

Just off the top of my head I'd have thought Ray & Tony Shaw, Ronnie Wearmouth, Barry Price, Georgie Bissett at the Pies. They could all play a bit. League wide there have been heaps. You would expect the numbers to decline as the average height of the population rises but there is still a place for an Eddie Betts or a Boomer Harvey and their height doesn't determine football ability.

But how many where Drafted and did NOT make it?

As a percentage, probably about the same number as the 190+ players who didn't make it.

You'd expect some of those players to be available with our 1st pick likely to be the 31st player taken, due to the academy kids taken with later picks then pick 27.

There's a few names around our pick that interest.

I'd be happy to see us pick up Partington, Johnson, Clarke or Lovell. Pretty much every mock draft I see has most of these guys ahead of our pick, but always at least 1 or 2 lasting to us.

Obviously if someone like a Burton slides then I'd be happy. Would also be happy to take Rioli if he slides even though I'm not entirely sure about him.

Parrington is the 1 I would want out of those 4 I want. Lovely User of the Ball
