Re: Pick 28 - Fraser McInness

Did Newman graduate from Trinity? It's incredible the amount of players Trinity College has provided for the AFL, I think that with these two the number would be 20. No other WA boys school could lay claim to more I wouldn't have thought.

In terms of McInnes, Glassy and Lynch ain't gonna be around forever. I like the pick. Go Eagles.

its because trinity give out scholarships to kids on the grounds of sporting ability. for example when i was a kid i was offered a 50% scholarship to trinity on their cricket program. Unfortunately my parents didnt want me living away from home and i ruined my back and shoulders before getting to senior cricket.

I know you can't tell much from 48 seconds of edited footage, but his body and the way he moves and kicks reminds of Phil Davis. Davis also had an injury interrupted draft year iirc.

I think he moves like Florio in that video. Could be the Perth jumper screwing with my head. :p

What year did you graduate?

A taller Scott Lucas, nice side step, left footer and looks good overhead.

This is a good likeness, moves just like him and Scotty was no mug.

Edit: Jesus re-watching that AFL.com.au footage, his movement, kicking and marking is almost a mirror of Scotty Lucas... Shit I hope he's that good.

I think people are underselling lucas here and particularly his athletic capabilities. Don't get me wrong mcinnes is no mug and i rate him the best key defender in this draft pool but lucas was a very special player imo who if anything underachieved.

this

and Trinity's fees are considerably lower than those at Hale or Scotch for example. Its like 4 grand vs. 12 grand or in that ballpark anyways.

Yeah TC is the cheapest PSA school and do give out scholarships for sporting ability, but so would other schools. Maybe TC has an eye for AFL talent at a young age ;)

Seriously you like to speak a lot of shite.

Fraser Mcinnes is a outstanding selection I always thought GWS would take him.
Played mainly as a key defender, is a great overhead mark, wonderful left foot kick and has great pace, that video doesn't show much of it.
He is a running rebounding defender in the Jako mould.

Yes he can play foward and pinch hit in the ruck, but is mainly a backman that can play a number of positions.
He is easily the best defender in this draft, and I rate as top ten talent.

If he hadn't missed the championship due to injury and had played on Patton like brad wirra wanted, he would of been a top ten pick.

Being at WCE he will be given time to develop behind some already good defenders, and offer us some good depth in kpd talent.

He has a high ceiling, and will put pressure on our other defenders.

Is he better suited at FB or CHB?

How good are our young talls: Naitanui, Kennedy, Emac, Schofield, Darling, Brown, McInnes, Lycett - all are seriously talented and very athletic. Is there a better group of young KPP's in the league? Our spine is set for the next 10 years :thumbsu:

after all those 28+ next year have moved on we're hopefully sorted for KPPs now.

McInnes will most likely be competing with Brown for CHB? Or maybe we could have a really tall forward line and he could combine with 2 rucks, Kennedy and Darling like Lynch does? If he turns out to be decent it will be great to have his versatility.

A potential (future) team with him at CHB, with age turned in 2014 in brackets:

McGinnity (25) Mackenzie (26) Waters (28)
Hurn (27) McInnes (21) Schofield (25)
Rosa (28) Priddis (29) Gaff (22)
Newman (21) Kennedy (27) Darling (22)
Hill (25) Lycett (22) LeCras (28)

R: Naitanui (24) S. Selwood (24) Shuey (24)

I: Masten (25) Smith (24) Stevens (23) Weedon (23) Sheppard (23) Brown (26) Butler (28)

Obviously its ok to flame me up on this board and get trolled by a mod. So I will bite..... watching Fraser in that very small short clip reminded me of a young Simmons so sorry for having a ****ing opinion ya ****ing Nazi.

Obviously we have now turned into Dockerland so I guess its no great loss to be perma banned from here.

Well done Larri you have succeeded.

You're touchier than me this morning spek. :p I've just gone a couple of rounds with my 11yo, nothing like an early morning spar to get the blood pumping. I can't see how Larri trolled you, in all honesty.

Put it this way spek, I can sort of see where you're coming from, because when I first saw McInnes I didn't think he was as agile as most claimed, but in the last WAFL game against Swans he was pretty good, moved a lot better. :thumbsu: Remember, he has been hampered by injuries for a good part of the year, but he's a good solid build already, a la Lycett when he came to the eagles.

supposedly another speedy tall..i like it..
it seems obvious in a way-we have our backline covered-we needed another zippy mid/forward,and got that with our other pick.
the club did say due to a lack of real razzle dazzle available for them, they decided to build their depth to cover future players leaving etc..eg cox+lynch, not forgetting injuries.

re the nay sayers..its always good to hear other opinions/options etc, but you'd think the club would know a thing or two about who they want and why?
(not that theyre always right - which shows how difficult it is even with all the experts on board)

Who would have thought the Eagles would have recruited someone who has been hampered by injuries..... :D

Yeah, he's a nephew of Monkey Brennan so I reckon he'd give a good wrestle over a banana.

so that would make him Jacob's cousin?

the schools have about 4 scholarships for each school year, i'd doubt that's it. I'm pretty sure there football program is just amazing.

pretty sure embley went there too...

What's up Spek, you seem a little more relaxed than usual this off season?
