Toast Pick 28 - Fraser McInnes

Read on another thread and in an article that McInnes missed the U18 champs with an ankle injury, came back and made WAFL seniors at the end of the year and then didn't test at draft camp ...... again due to injury.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks the Eagles had their sights on him for a while now and said to him "hey no need to test at draft camp son, you just keep yourself below the radar and you will be an Eagles next year";)

Did this stop him playing the U18 champs as well? Probably not but you never know.:D

Pity we didn't that more often, I'm sure all the other clubs do it.

Re: Pick 28 - Fraser McInness

Good God Mate 12 grand I only wish ..... your a bit behind the times ..try closer to 20 K

It's actually more like 8k vs 17k+ nowadays.

That's why I thought the TC numbers and quality might have thinned out a bit in the last 3-4 years. Not the case. Trinity College may well be the premier football school in all of Australia. 20+ players in the ranks.

Never really knew how much exactly it cost since I went to a co-ed school. Oh and its been a while since my graduation.

You know Reid couldn't exactly run in that game yeah? And Tarrant is one of the most under achieving players in a long time.

I get what you mean though, Glass, Scarlett and Rutten are eliet, while Dawson and Williams as ordinary, but strictly if you were to look at the players as a blank canvas, the one that is 196 is a better choice than the one that is 191. But I'm not suggesting we just play Cox at CHB either. Just if two KPD are even, other than height, you'd choose the taller one.

Yes, and do you realise Tarrant couldn't exactly run either yeah? Tarrant hasn't under-achieved since becoming a KD.

I don't think they're 'blank canvases', what you see is what you get most of the time, that's why you take them. I think our imaginations have created the upside and potential awesomeness in really tall kids. That's just my opinion though.

McInnes does not have a heap of exposed form, that is potentially why he lasted to your pick. I've heard conflicting reports with regards to his potential, anywhere from good talent to a slower/shorter version of Ryder.

As for Carlton being interested, considering we seemed to have only one live selection at the draft, I doubt that McInnes was every really being considered for pick 22. WH and SR run a very tight ship and many journo's have no idea who we will draft or who we rate.

That was part of my point, he should be a very good player so why would you be suprised he does better than Reid?

Take your example of Z Dawson, do you think he would he could be where he is (he has played in 2 grand finals and been on an afl list for 6 or so years, regardless of how bad you rate him) if he was 2 inch sorter? He would have been beaten far more often and probably not got drafted to begin with.

Height is an obvious factor for KPDs, that's one of the reasons Hams doesn't play CHB.

I wasn't surprised at all.

No Zac probably wouldn't be on a list, but that's what I'm saying. He was picked because he's really tall, unfortunately he's shit and is out-bodied all the time....And in hindsight should be playing in a state league. He's not really playing because he can defend, and the Saints should have played Hughton over the skinny spud in the 09 GF.

Only to a certain extent does height matter, I'd rather a slightly smaller defender with a clue than a few extra cms of shitness from Dawson/Williams like failed projects.

End of discussion.

Kicking style looks a bit awkward, leans back on it but manages to keep it down.

Anything but awkward, really smooth and natural.

Look forward to watching him play. Big bloke, big leap off both sides, takes the ball really high and has Jack Darling like grip on it. Has the look of a Basketballer imo, looks to play on really quick and has good vision and clean hands.

Hope he and JD can become a great utility combo for us.

Gee he is a good kick.

Solid mark, but was larger than nearly all his opposition in the footage.

Very nice mover though, liked that change of direction where he skirted around a small/mid sized player entering the forward 50 and the collect off the ground.

When Worsfold dropped the "succession planning" hint before the draft, I'm guessing he was talking about targeting McInnes as a long-term replacement for Lynch, not Glass. He does play/look a bit like Quinten to me. Big lump. Looks good as a leading forward with a powerful kick.

Question I have for those smarter folks...

How's his defensive game? Can he tackle and pressure or is he basically Lynchy in this regard.

I remember the Perth FC development manager, when asked to describe him, said his tackling and pressure for a big bloke will hold in good stead at AFL level. Something like that anyway. So yeah, it appears a strength of his.

Seems like a really sharp, well spoken kid going by the clip on the Eagles website. All the best to him and hope to see him killing it at AFL level real soon together with his cuz.
