Pick 30

Am a massive rap for Troy Taylor but too many indicators are pointing to Josh Thomas.

As has been mentioned many times, he has been guaranteed to be selected by the Pies and it is appearing more likely by the day that it will be with pick 30. It's either Taylor or Thomas for me come draft day. One should still be available come pick 30.

With Luke Ball looking increasingly unlikely to last to pick 30 if he nominates for the draft, JT is hot favourite and the precedence has already been set from last season with Dayne Beams.

However, Andrew Welsh could throw a spanner in the works if he walks out on Essendon.

Thomas is the Warm Favourite for Pick 30 but as you say a Player could drop like Taylor or Fitzpatrick who we also could select

AND

Welsh could also be in the Calculations

I was thinking about MAX GAWN - a 206cm Ruckman who moves quite well and can take a Good Mark.

Check Out his Video:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ngynonjjwnl

Gawn more recently has been measured at 208cm and 103kg.

He is the youngest in this draft (28th december 91). So likely will have some more growth left in him.

His value is lowered in that he was out of the U18 champs injured.

At the moment I would rate James Craig the better ruckman (even while being 13cm shorter).

Gawn will be a guy that will take a while but worth a pick perhaps mid-late 30s in this draft.

Well I heard People say he would be as Tall as Saindlands at about 211cm.

I reckon he would be an Okay Pick at 30 as he could become a Dominate Ruckman

I would love to get Gysberts but I think he will be gone before our pick. I played against him in under 16s and he was best on ground.

Several clubs agree, with Dare having his share of interviews, even though his upfront and blunt approach initially caught Collingwood representatives slightly off guard.
Magpies officials asked Dare how he would feel if he were drafted by the club, only for the teenager to respond with words to the effect of: "You either love Collingwood or hate Collingwood, and I barrack for Essendon, so you know where I sit."

Sounds like we are looking at Dare from Geelong

he video of him looks good, prety solid contested mark in defence, finishing infront of cunnington in the B&F is a good sign. Still prefer a mid.

Just going by what is said about him in this month's Draft Preview in Inside Football, I really like the sound of Sam Reid - a genuine 6'4", runs a 14 beep test, 75cm vertical leap, sub-3 second 20m sprint, and is possibly better than his brother was at the same age. Could add some much-needed depth to our KPD stocks for the future. Kyle Hartigan sounds good to me as well, and he might be available at a later pick too. Benjamin Griffiths and Jake Fitzpatrick are also attractive prospects, but I'm not sure they'd be available at Pick 30.

To be honest, I'd rather stock up on KPPs than get another 'X-Factor' type like Troy Taylor. He could well turn out to be a good player, but I think looking ahead we need genuine Key Forwards or Backs, not HFF/Mid types, as we have those in abundance already.

I don't want Troy Taylor. I don't like laconic types. His U 18 coach said he needs to work on his fitness and work ethic.

No thanks.

Would rather Thomas.

^^^ I tend to agree. I just get thoughts of Chris Egan when I hear Troy Taylors name. We all know how Egan turned out :( I wouldn't be too fussed if we got one of Thomas or Carey they look like solid players who won't let the team down and play a role :D

That was my 1st Thought about Taylor was Egan but Other Posters seems really high on him

# 30 – Collingwood
Alex Carey / Glenelg / 181cm / 79kg

Its getting harder now. I reckon the next 30-40 kids are all pretty even and we will see the actual results swing really wildly from what we expect.

This was a pretty difficult selection for me. I am a massive fan of Fitzpatrick but having recruited Jolly then the need for him is reduced particularly in light of Collingwood's mad search for an inside midfielder like Ball or Welsh. So thats what I went looking for. In the mix for me was Thomas, Hutchings, Crichton but its ultimately Carey I wanted. Thomas was close but I have seen Carey a number of times and been really impressed. McMillan-Pittard was also in the mix but given we have Blight coming thru in that role he just wasnt really in the mix.

Carey is an AFL / AIS graduate and is a very good cricketer as well. Strong build and very physical player who excels around the contest and is very courageous. Like many others in this draft has really good contested possession capability and his work around the clearances, particularly by hand, are exceptional. Can have a tendency to overplay the release but for the main part is very good. In many ways he reminds of Joel Selwood - just goes all day, great athlete, courageous and never going to let you down. Like Joel the issue is the kicking - is not elite but its still very good.

The one that got away - Bartlett

It's gonna happen when you get burnt like we did with egan. I keep changing my mind on taylor just not sure on him. I'm more confident that the other two will succeed more then Taylor but that's just from watching highlights so it doesn't show you everything :)

True - The thing I lean towards Taylor it's the 30th pick and not the 10th like Egan

yeah exactly why I keep changing my mind pick 30 isn't great but I think we should get a solid player.it's our only reasonable early pick and if we take a gamble on taylor and it's a flop we get nothing out of the draft. If we go for the other 2 I think we can get a consistent player :D

We did use our Pick 14 on Jolly, Instead of in the Draft

Yeah my mistake I meant a young guy :) I'm not complaining about jolly we desperately needed a ruckmen and he's a very good one :D will improve on our clearances next season that's for sure :)

Well we needed a Proper Ruckman and we where not going to get one in the Draft that would do Anything for at Least 3 Seasons
