Since we have not traded our first pick in the draft, I was wondering who our preferred player at pick 4 would be.

Personally, with Boyd & Kelly likely to go 1 & 2, I would be very happy with Aish or Billings as I think both would suit our side perfectly. Thoughts.

By no means an expert but there's just something about Billings, looks like the type that can turn a game on its head. Hard to go past drafting a genuine match winner like that.

I'm on the Aish/Billings band wagon. Although the top 5 all look to be high end talents this year, with Kelly, Scharenburg and of course Boyd filling the other 3 spots.

While I think Bontempelli has huge potential, I don't think he's one I'd look at. Same with KK.

I feel like I'm being reverse peer pressured into choosing someone other than Aish, but no, Aish for me.

I just hope we have the balls to take Marcus Bontempelli . It is a whisper around that GWS will take him pick 2. Collingwood wanted 6 to to get him. 183cm outside mid at the moment, pace, strong pack mark, when body develops will be a power in the mid field. Also a very good by hand and foot. He has so much upside.

Which of the current crop best fits the description of Ryan Griffen MKII?

Whoever that is will suffice.
Isn't really one that fits his style. Aish has his awareness and skills, but not hardness or leadership. Kelly has his running ability and silky left foot, but also no hardness and doesn't have an inside game.

1 GWS. Boyd
2 GWS. Kelly
3 STK. Aish
4 WB Billings/Scharenberg
5 GCFC Billings/Scharenberg

To me this seems the most likely scenario, if Aish is at 4 I think we should pick him but I don't think its likely. I think the burger is probably more of a required position for us than Billings, however I'd be happy with either.

I really want to be different but Aish for me as well, perfect complement for our midfield.

Although I wouldn't be unhappy if we ended up with Billings/Scharenberg/KK. I don't want Kelly that much, i'm not sold on him, but he'll still be an alright pick and is highly likely to prove me wrong and be a gun. So we can't really screw this one up, touch wood!

Aish for me (very uninformed view tho I'm afraid). Just on the basis that:

1. He seriously fills a need. A silky, smooth moving mid with killer delivery is the perfect compliment to our midfield warriors.

2. He's played very well in big games at a high level against men.

3. He isn't a man child and has genuine physical development in him

4. Reportedly a fantastic young fella with great work ethic and character

5. Highly regarded in football circles (ie isn't a speculative pick).

When is a top draft 5 pick ever speculative?
I dunno if you're one but some people seem to have a distorted view where they think that players like Tom Williams (even though he was pick 6) hadn't shown they were very good footballers.

Fair call. Was thinking like a bontempelli. More of a bolter. Someone that hasn't really done a great deal at the elite junior level (bontempelli was v poor at the champs wasn't he?) but has physical attributes that might make a recruiter take the risk.

Aish has played great footy and has runs on the board.

Aish or Billings Realistically or Kelly for the unrealistic chance.
It's funny how quickly things change. A month ago we were sitting here going, "Kelly or Billings realistically or Aish for the unrealistic chance." The fact that Aish is a genuine possibility now is awesome.

I get your point - but hadn't Williams played a grand total of ten matches of Australian Rules (in QLD, no less) in his life prior to being drafted on the basis of his elite athletic capabilities?

That, to me, is a speculative pick and not one you throw a top ten pick at. Getting the high picks right is just far too important to take a punt on.

He'd played 10-15 games prior to the NAB u/18 championships.
Like a lot of players (Jack Watts) he bolted after strong championship performances and testing. Many thought he would be top 5 though, so in that sense I wouldn't call it speculative.

A similar example is Jeremy Cameron only played about 10 games before being selected for a TAC cup squad but was highly regarded and likely to be a top 5 draft pick by the time he was pre-listed by GWS. What would people say if a club let a Jeremy Cameron type slide past the top 10?
