Pick 43- Draft 2016

funny when people judge Ben against his Dad, are they forgetting Darren was in his mid twenties when he went to Hawthorn?

fair to say Ben will be a bit better than he is now by the time he hits that age.

To be fair Dad was a superstar whilst still in his teens

He doesn't need to be as good as dad. That's a heck of a high hurdle for anyone to get over

Yeah I wouldn't even go down the road of comparison because there is none

Better off comparing Ben with some of his contemporaries especially at 176cm

Is there any chance in hell that Rotham will be there at 43, or am I dreaming?

Before my time, but he was pretty ****ing good at North Adelaide according to those who saw him play.

I hope not. Hoping we take BJ at pick 66

I suspect Jarman's possibly in line for picks 82 or 90 pending on what's available and who we've picked up with our first 4 picks, otherwise we'll be hoping to grab him as a rookie. If Jarman appeared in line for any of our first 4 picks, we likely would have nominated him for F-S.

Maybe but it would depend how the cards fall. If our priorities ahead of him are gone by 66 then we could use it. Not taking him as a fs gives us flexibility but we run the risk of loosing him.

Wouldn't it be nice if Jack Graham goes through to pick 43.. doubt it

I don't see it with Graham outside of he is a local boy.

Seems like a limited inside midfielder to me, we already have enough of those.

Jarman will be drafted on Friday in the National draft b4 us

like the sound of 35. WILLEM DREW

Midfielder, 188cm, 78kg, North Ballarat Rebels/Koroit
Yes, i agree, he'd be worth the risk at #43 .......but there's simply too many choices ....too many variables in players ......do my head in trying to work later picks out, so haven't tried

#13 is hard enough

Is there any chance in hell that Rotham will be there at 43, or am I dreaming?
There could be as many as 20 likable players still available .....suspect we'll do ok with this pick

Of the player who may reasonably still be available at 43 I like the sound of:
Brennen Cox (KPD)
Willam Drew (IMID)
Fisher (MID)
Sam Walker (HBF)
Josh Begley (FWD/MID)
Patrick Kerr (KPF)

This draft is bloody even and hard to predict but unfortunately, I reckon Begley, Drew, Himmelberg, Poholke will be gone by our pick 43.
I'm hoping Lipinski is there.
But I'd also be happy with one of Sproule, McCreadie or Allison. They could either all be gone or be matched due to being academy players. Brisbane (Allison) is probably the most likely of matching i think.

I'd love to be able to get 2-3 of these guys for our later picks.
Drew
Begley
Lipinski
Mutch
Poholke
Walker
Morrish
Himmelberg
McCreadie
Sproule
Williamson
Ben Davis
Guelfi
Sam Fisher
Jarman
Olango

Don't think any of those will be there.

This draft seems to splutter out around pick 40.

There's a top tier, then maybe 30 others. We are just outside each tier.

I PM'd a few posters here 2 months ago that we've been all over Lipinski for aa while now, b4 he was talked about ......and that is a strong contact

Would love us to bid on Jacob Allison & Sproule

Scharenberg a chance, quite a few good mids still there as well

It's times like this, where our recruiting team have pulled out some serious gems later in the draft, that fills me with confidence that we should be able to net some pretty nifty players with 43 and 53. Fingers crossed.

I think you're wrong, certainly with Pick 13, and there will definitely be some very "solid" players still available at 43 in this draft.

IMO some players with later picks that could be very nice players with the right development... names for you to check out...Mitch McCarthy, Ben Ronke, Brandan Parfitt, Kym LeBois, Callan Wellings, Reece Piper, Jarrod Korewha, Matthew Signorello Lewis Young. Take Sturt's Lewis Young for instance, could be anything with the right development and time..

IN four hours of exhilarating power and athleticism, giant Sturt teenager Lewis Young went from draft smoky to turning heads.

Having already caught the eye of a handful of AFL clubs, the 197cm, 90kg former basketballer has been one of the most scrutinised and interviewed players in recent weeks after a standout display at the SA Draft Combine.

Young, 17 and only eligible for the draft by 11 days, blew clubs away with his 2.97 second time for the 20m run — second-best of the 17 players who tested, behind only South Adelaide’s Dylan Whimpress (2.91).

He also was a standout in the vertical jump.

Young’s “wow’’ factor has seen 12 clubs interview him in the lead-up to the draft.

A late bloomer after focusing more on basketball — he played at under-16 State level — than football until last year, Young’s blistering speed and athleticism for his height has clubs excited by his potential.

“I was pleased with my combine, a lot of clubs seemed happy with my athletic work,’’ said Young, who played one league game for premier Sturt last season against North Adelaide in round 21.

“I’m pretty raw in football terms because I’ve only made football my priority in the past two seasons and have progressed from under-16s through to league footy pretty quickly.

“But clubs seem to be looking at my upside and thinking where I might be in three years.

“I still need to put on some weight but I think I’ve got the potential to improve a lot.

Young, who made this year’s State under-18 team under the guidance of SANFL high performance manager Brenton Phillips, is modelling his game on rising Melbourne star, key forward Jesse Hogan.

“Unless I keep growing I’ll probably be too small to play as a ruckman in the AFL so I’m working on my key forward work, including my goalkicking,’’ Young said.

“I think I’m pretty versatile and could also play down back or as a high half-forward.’’

As one of this year’s draft bolters and youngest players in the pool, Young is not concerned where he might fall in the drafts, as long as he finds an AFL home.

“The number doesn’t matter,’’ he said.

“Clubs tell me that once you walk in the door the pick number is insignificant and that whether you are pick one or pick 100 all players are on an even keel.

“It’s been my dream since I was a little kid to be a professional sportsman and if I do get selected it will be the best day of my life.’’

Begley also if above are gone

Expecting the club to once again draft for ceiling & competitiveness more so than performances.

Lewis Young have a reputation for competitiveness? If so he's almost a certainty under that filter...
