Who will we be taking at pick 43? Who do you think we should be taking and why? Who will be left? Any bolters or more importantly sliders?

You know it is getting boring when we have to speculate who we might pick at 43. And we got 5 more months of this......................we aint gonna make it, there is only so much crap we can take.

Best available.
Will always be our policy at Carlton, and is the best way of building a great club. Wouldn't surprise me if we took a recycled player here - maybe even a Jesse Smith, although this would be dependant on what his medical results were like.

A smokie.

Smith is too injury prone.

Someone could slide to pick 43 if Ball, Smith and McDonald are drafted in the first three rounds.

Pick 59 could become pick 50 after the clubs with a stack of early picks pass with their fourth round pick.

Pick 59 is the pick to use on a retread.

One of MacDonald or Jesse Smith (obviously pending the results of a medical) thanks.

Both are good footballers and if fit are likely to be better than anything else available at that stage of the draft.

Provided his medical test results are ok, I would take Smith over MacDonald any day of the week. This kid can seriously play, and if he can get his body right, he would be a terrific pick up for any club.

i too mentioned wanting to get jesse smith in another thread (pending injury). is it possible to get him through any of the other drafts, or would we be best off going after him in the national draft. part of me thinks that we should try and steer clear from afl players in the national draft and go after young kids (even if this draft is shallow)

Especially if we manage to get some more exciting talent in the upcoming drafts, Bradshaw, KPP young gun and more to add to McLean and Henderson. I could not stand the wait to find out how good we are next year.

Already we have 38 players on our main list (incl Jacobs, Joseph & Garlett) who are quite capable of playing for the Blues 2010.
The more we have the unhappier we are going to make some who can't get a regular game because they are marginally below other players or they just don't match up on the opposition of the day.
That's what happens to some teams like Hawthorn &, Geelong etc, where they had to let some go. It also creates problems in the salary cap area.
The solution might be to keep getting a high number of new young cheap players into the list. Keep turning them over in an effort to keep improving the lists quality. Not quantity.
Therfore I recommend over the next couple of years the Blues take as many "unknows" as possible to see if we can be lucky enough to snare a champion or two like say.....Hird etc.

How about Taite Silverlock:thumbsu:

The poor man's Tapscott at 43 ? ;)

I like Silverlock, but he's not a prolific inside ball winner for his build, not overly quick to be a dangerous flanker, and is a bit of a manchild with less scope for improvement....not sure recruiters will see him as more than a rookie selection or state league player

Killing smokies one post at a time...

Is there a chance that Astbury will be there at 43?

Does your name need to be Houghton, Temel, Panos and Griffiths to have a bandwagon on BF?

All the decent talls are more than likely to go before pick 43. :p :D

BigPond highlights

Draft rater: tall defenders

David Astbury (North Ballarat Rebels, VIC)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 26/02/91
Recruited from: Tatyoon
Has always been on the radar this year and looms as a second to third rounder. He can also play up forward, with his lead-up play and strong hands are a feature.
Draft range: 30-50

Draft rater: tall defenders

David ASTBURY – VIC C – 193/ - - North Ballarat

KP Forward with very strong hands with a huge contested mark on him. Looks to have the ability to and smart to be played down back as well. Never gunna be a star but likely a very strong contributer in an AFL level.

AFL Player like = Daniel Bradshaw

PICK 40 – GEELONG - David Astbury (North Ballarat Rebels, VIC)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 26/02/91
Key forward/defender

David is all round good solid player. He’s a lead up forward with pretty strong hands and he can often bring down a few contested marks. He has good pace and endurance for his size and disposers of the ball well (needs a bit of goal kicking practice). His defensive pressure is quite good and generally does the team stuff.

Seriously, can we just forget about all this drafting of kids now, get a kpp with 12 and maybe the next one and then from our pick in the 50's try and snare some established out of contract players like jessie smith, mcdonald etc....we don't need that much of a top up, apart from finding another fwd possibly. Next year we will get d.buckley under f/s and heard he is a gun and we'll get another kid. We have enough kids to replace outgoing players in the next few years like houla and scotty. Time to add some ready made players to excel us and add immediate quality, we have enough kids now is the time to make an assault.

Kyle Hartigan

seen this kid develop as a footballer. My brother played footy with him and this kid can really turn out to be a great kpp. i think his 195cm not sure how many kgs but he has great leadership and imo he will be a steal and pick #43. ohh and i think he was captain for the western jets tac cup team.
