I would if I had them. But what I do know, is that he didn't feature as one of the better performers in either the 20metre sprint or the agility test or the repeat sprint. And reportedly, had the worst beep test at the draft camp.

Only athletic freaks ever feature highly in the 20m sprint, agility or repeat sprints while also standing at 198cm tall. It is VERY uncommon for someone so tall to feature prominently in these, let alone someone who had hardly played at all during the season. If he'd been out injured, how the heck do you think he'd have the fitness base to do well in a beep test?

His draft camp results would suggest otherwise.

They actually did better in the grand final when Pods left the ground injured.

Cloke is an elite endurance runner. Monsters opponents physically, and can also run them into the ground. He's a better runner than some of Collingwood's midfielders.

Arguably, but he most certainly helped them get to a grand final,

Rowe is a great pick up, time will tell

I certainly agree we would benefit from 2 big beasts up forward, but at least one of them needs to be an athletic freak, or else we end up like Essendon did last year when they played 3 ruckmen in the team and used 2 of them as tall fowards.
Mitchell listed athletic ability as one of his strengthes.

Long term, Mitchell and Henderson might be our forwards, but with our best 22 on the park next year, we'll have Waite, Walker, Garlett, Gibbs, Betts and Rowe or Hampson forward. That's a mobile forwardline with Henderson a great runner like Kreuzer.

Wayne Hughes stated that Rowe was a needs pick, yet we wouldn't have picked him if he wasn't on par with Murdoch. Worth the risk so late in the draft. Upside is that he will fill out training full time without finishing his apprenticeship part time.

Any chance we can refer to the M footballer as the "South Australian Utility", much like the Scottish play ??

Thanks in advance

I agree with Stefchook; I think our style of play means that we need a mobile forward line but I don't think anybody really means our second tall has to be all of 198cm, that's part of the reason we are having this argument. If we see all tall forwards as being big gorillas, it's most likely they are the only ones we'll get.

I think a few posters are getting their hopes up a bit early regarding ROWE.

I went to training on Friday and my first impression of him was he has a lot of work to do to be AFL ready.

On the flipside, can't help but be excited about Luke Mitchell.

Huh? What does that even mean?

I was commenting about the draft camp results where he didn't beat the midfield sized players in the tests. You don't expect any players that are 198cm tall to finish in the top 10 in these categories, but that doesn't mean they're not athletic for players their size.

It means Paf won't let an opportunity for a whine pass him by, even if he has to take a tangental jump ;)

Apparently the powers that be have a blindspot for tall athletic forwards, or their conjuring powers of making a top 6 prospect appear out of thin air have left them, cos Jack Watts grow on trees.

Looking forward to seeing how this Luke Mitchell V Sam Rowe battle plays out in the lead up to R1. Surprisingly, Mitchell appears to be more physically ready, despite only entering his 2nd year. Like the way Mitchell played the KPF role in those pre-draft highlights. This is healthy competition.

While I haven't seen him in person, the still shots show he is a fair way off having an afl body.

I feel he may not have the huge impact next season, but with a full year of fitness base could have a huge 2013. I love that he is a footballer that they will try add the afl body to, rather than the opposite. Due to this fact, he may still have a serviceable 2012, but will defintely benefit from being involved with our best-in-the-league fitness staff.

Either way, excited to see a natural 198cm forward
Line up for us. Certainly didn't have one last
Year!

What did you see that you didn't like Feva?
Not suggesting him to be the next Buddy, but from what I saw, he did all you'd expect of a FF.
Some of his contested marking was very good albeit he was matched up against Laidler.

Not saying I didnt like what I saw of ROWE, just not sure he is going to make the immediate impact that some are suggesting as Duigan did.

Has a fair bit of work to do to break into our best 22.

We have been crying out for a big forward and therefore competition for these spots is a great move by the club. Whilst you may say it is early to say that Rowe will line up Round 1 I would say the same about Hampson...worst kick and worst hands at the club...lets not get carried away on the 4 good games he played this year.

You see, this I don't understand, everything is great and everything is grim at the club at the same time. It's not mutually conducive.

No not grim at all...just would prefer to see blokes play when we recruit them and then make a call rather than putting them to the sword like some posters do...particularly when we are putting them behind players who are yet to prove themselves in a certain position.
