He doesn't have to be the best performer as Captain. He has to be equal parts level headed and inspirational. The best captain Port has had in my time was Tim Ginnevar. He wasn't our best player, he was level headed, inspirational and set standards though. I think in our AFL era we have made the mistake of making the best or one of the best players captain, if they also happen to be those other things, fine, but they don't have to be. Butters is really close to being one of those guys. Connor is really close to being one of those guys. I actually think right now, Ollie might almost be our best choice. I think he had it too early.

Rozee is a huge test for Carr next year. If Josh gets his attitude right and gets him saying the right things rather than cupping Hinkley's balls and claiming victory over the haters because we won one out of our last six finals, then maybe there's a captain in there somewhere. And if not, pull the trigger and give it to Butters or JHF.

Butters is probably not here in 12 months (more likely than not I would suggest) whilst JHF will only be 23 next year. Still too young imo.
He was literally on track for a 3rd All-Australian jacket before he got injured.
I find it equally amusing that people criticise Rozee's comments yet both Butters and JHF have said the exact same thing with regards to their stance on Ken etc.
I recall Butters stopped talking highly of Ken this year and often refers to Carr instead.
No no no, the media says Butters loves Ken way more than Carr so this cannot be true!?!?!

My issues with Rozee as a captain go well beyond him just liking Hinkley. I think Rozee is an excellent footballer, but put a microphone in front of him and everything he says embodies the 'it's a tough game and somebody's gotta lose' philosophy that has become a cancer on this club. Butters and JHF may like Hinkley as well, I'm sure they do, but they don't speak or act like him.

Selective hearing. Just a couple of days ago, he was talking about how he was in tears listening to Hinkley's 3-quarter time speech. He's probably the most pro-ken on our list, so much so that Hawthorn are gonna give Hinkley a career lifeline in the HOPE of luring Butters to their club in 12 months.
He also said he was close to tears when Ken addressed the players for the last time at 3/4 time last week.
There’s definitely something more than a coach/ player relationship.

It's almost like he has been trained by the media team for PR purposes. What a concept.
I'm not convinced Butters is leaving tbh I think if we bounce or even just show an exciting new brand he'll find it hard to leave I'm also not convinced he'd follow Ken to the ends of the earth either.
Anyway I loved Rozee's game the other night he played like a captain and I have a suspicion Carr will be more effective at bringing out his best.

Anyhow Butters goes if he's too hellbent on Ken which we will find out I guess. That would make him part of the problem.
We are a football team first.
Connor is an absolute jet, easily one of my favourites to watch. He's annoyed me with some of the shit he's said in the media too. Hoping Josh's "ruthlessness" can rub off on Connor as a leader.
