With regard to selecting Rohan AND Cunnington because they have a "bond" of sorts. I'd expect them to be forming a bond with their new teammates, rather than relying on past connections.

Of course breeno but what was interesting is that Melbourne, having the two first picks, HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING drafting both of these guys as an alternative to the expectations, due primarily to their already strong bond!

Still hoping Richmond dont select Martin and we get him.
I agree. Save the speculatory picks for later in the draft.

We can't afford a bust in this draft. That makes Martin ideal. Morabito wont slip past Freo one would think, but if he does, he'd be equally as attractive a prospect.

I like Rohan, but isn't he a little bit of a risk?

He's not a full-time midfielder, he only averages 14 disposals per game at TAC level and doesn't fill an important need. Speed isn't as important as having a well-rounded Ziebell type midfielder in Martin.

I would hope that our first choice has good skills, is smart and has a ferocious attack on the footy.

Both Cunnington & Rohan have these attributes it seems in spades. I'm sure there are others within the top ten that would also have these qualities, but judging from the talk up of these two guys and Scott's supposed penchant for tough, uncompromising, contested footy, I would be a little disappointed if Cunnington wasn't starting round 1 2010 in the blue and white stripes.

He seems to be an awesome prospect - has the tough, get the job done tone to his footy that Anthony Stevens had. Although, as others have said, it would be also very exciting to get someone like Martin who seems like a complete midfielder or Rohan who could combine really well with the pressure from Campbell and Thomas in the forward line to really make it hard for opposition defenders.

Recruiting Manager: I've just seen this awesome kid playing in the WAFL.
Coach: Fantastic, can we get him?
Recruiter: Yeah but it gets better. He has a brother, not quite as talented, but they have this incredible bond.
Coach: Stuff that, the good one can bond with his new team mates.
Recruiter: Yeah, nah, I reckon we should take Phil as well as Jimmy.

Some of you "play-it-safe" blouses would have left Buddy or NicNat on the shelf given the choice, or so I suspect.:thumbsd:

it will be interesting to see if he breaks any records at the draft camp

i reckon he could burn matty c in a race

Bit of a Hill or Rich argument?

That's the analogy that's sitting with me. So far both have indicated they will long and productive AFL careers, and while Rich has shown he has the goods from the 'get go', Hill's upside is likely to be shown in years to come (though the immediate evidence is still pretty good.)

I'm erring on the Martin side of things, and hoping Richmond don't swoop. That said, Rohan seems swift of foot, and has an eye catching mane when in full gallop though.

Out of academic interest, which is the less talented Krakeour in your opinion?

Susbtitute the names Brent and Shane and in there and it takes a different turn.

Brent Krakeour was shite.

Hill is so much better than Rohan, it's not funny though.

And the bloke tackling Rohan in that pic will the best of the bunch.

Rohan is an "exciting prospect" but there is a large element of risk involved. Flashy mids that can tear up games for certain periods of time are all well and good, but they don't win you premierships. We already have Wells. If we are going for a mid, we need someone reliable to build the midfield around.

I just don't get these assessments of Rohan. It's not like he's reached his peak. The talent identifiers will be seeking the player who WILL BE the best, not necessarily who's BEEN the best junior. It's all about upside, and who they deem has the most scope to improve.

Hell, Ziebell was deemed by some to be an unfit plodder. I suspect some who judged him as that would be second guessing themselves now!

yea rohan is not my first choice but ive got to say there are some very strange comments on him in this thread

Personally wouldn't go after Rohan. I know he is young and exciting, but goes missing way too much for my liking. Would rather Cunnington or Martin. I want a solid tough player who will be apart of our midfield for 10 years. I don't think rohan will make it as a midfielder i think he will be a flashy HFF. We already have Sam Wright on our list who offers the exact same in ability and flashiness, don't want to risk our first rounder on him.

I wasn't making that comparison, as such Q. Haven't seen enough of Hill and nothing of Rohan other than the U18 Youtube clips.

I was simply wondering if the Hill v Rich decision for Freo last year is comparable to discussions on this thread about the relevant worth of Rohan v (eg) Martin. That is, tall, pacy, athletic guy with potentially huge upside (albeit not guaranteed) and not as AFL ready NOW, vs a more known quantity and someone with a more mature body too, ready to go.

Yep, get it. The thing I disagree with is that Rich and Hill had very good kicks on them, Hill being dual-sided and Rich having the best kick in the draft. Martin is dual-sided and Rohan seems to be an average kick.

..........lets just pick the best available.............be it a flashy Ranga...in an under Mid or KPP...........its hard to pass judgement based on 2 minutes of you tube............I think we can safely assume that Joyce has done more homework than this............

Just a little interesting thing I read on contestedfooty.com. I'm not sure about this site at all, as it is the first time I've read anything from it. A rundown of Gray Rohan, stats, weakness, strengths and where abouts the author of the descriptions, who i'm yet to determine, thinks he will be drafted.

"Rohan will get drafted there is no doubt about that, much of the debate when it comes to Rohan centers around what his draft value is though. Potential is a dirty word to a lot of people and the Rohan hype is all about potential. I have heard people mention him as a top 3 prospect, which is beyond unlikely in my view. Others are more measured and have him in the top 10 which is a possibility but personally I have him slotted as a late first round/early second round pick at the moment, but perhaps the draft camp will reveal more."

Interesting, was written about three weeks ago. Either this person doesn't have a clue or things have changed dramatically in regards to the amount of hype Rohan is getting.

Take it with a less than a grain of salt.

I was on there last night having a read up on Butcher. Had a look around the site and could'nt find an author for any of the appraisals either which left me wondering as well. A fairly in depth analysis but you wouldn't know how accurate it was.
