They used to say that a private school boy is the next best thing to a girl, but that was back in the day of single sex schools. No doubt there are still all boys enclaves to be found. As for Murphy, why do we need to be linked at pick 6 with someone not even in most top 20s? If we take Murphy at 6 I'll slit my throat.

Because Hine and Co Rate Him Highly but I be Shocked IF we Picked him at 6

I agree. Carlton would be pretty happy to see Fogarty slip that far and take him from Adelaide's clutches, following on from the Gibbs trade.

Do you think the talk of Stephenson slipping right out of the top 10 is legit?

Oh man, who really knows? He and Bonar seem really hard to place. Both with major potential and X factor, both with risks.

Apparently he is also linking us to Ed Richards at 6. At least his profile fills a need, run with elite foot skills.
Yeah. He said there been talk Recently that we take Richards at 6. Still think that be bit overs but I have said we been On Grunt and Little Class and Richards look like he could add some Class
Whispers that we're considering Richards at 6, but he has us taking Fogarty. Richards would be a nice sentiment, however should someone slip from the top 5 they might be too hard to pass up.

Why Murphy-
Not my first preference, but some reasons just in case.

Hine must see some attributes from cricket that could translate to footy eg.
  1. Courage - if you can have a rock thrown at your head at 150KM you aren't going to worry about being tackled or putting your head over the footy.
  2. Reading the ball from the hand- if you can read how a small ball leaves the hand at 22 metres, you shouldn't have any problems reading a ruck tap
  3. Reading the flight of the ball - if you can predict where a small ball travelling at 150 KM is going to land and position your feet in time, you should have no issues reading the flight and positioning your body for a mark
  4. Decision making - on the way to a century, you probably face over 500 balls and for each one you have to decide quickly whether to leave, block, duck, make a shot and if so which shot
  5. Hand to eye co-ordination and reflexes - within micro-seconds you have to co-ordinate your hands and feet after possibly adjusting for a sudden change in direction. These should make him good below his knees.
  6. Coachability - if you can learn 2 codes and be good at both, you must be able to learn
Given that he is already a good kick, and mark (as predicted by item 3), that he has excellent endurance over no pre-season and limited game time, that his physique is ideal for footy he may have a very high upside - particularly since he is the youngest in the draft

Sounds to me like he should stick to cricket if we’re left looking at those traits as justification for potentially selecting him at 6.

I really can't get on board with Richards at 6, this has to be purely due to being Grandson of rather then what he has shown to date.

A few weeks ago he was tipped to go between 25-35 now saying pies think he is worth a top 6 pick after the season has ended? Yeah - nah.

Brayshaw wasn't in the top 10 and now could go 1... and Balta dropped off the map, it's not a normal draft

Yes he has. I have had a Feeling though for a month or so that we could take Richards at 6.

Though he has said he not very sure on the Picks just going off what he heard and his Ratings

Something the Dictator Ed would do

I’ve resigned to whoever we pick up at 6 will be a very good player for us. I can’t split them. Just hope that whoever it is becomes the best player from who we have available.

Many others seem resigned to the fact that whoever we pick up will be a dreadful mistake!!!

I highly doubt he was facing anyone bowling over 140 clicks and 500 balls for a century is over 80 overs which would mean he's facing a whole day which is also unrealistic.

BAs mock of Richards to Carlton... imagine Ed's face.

Actually, I've got this image in my head of McGuire creeping around Princes Park in the middle of the night, clad in designer label black, with a lit Molotov cocktail, psychotic grin from ear-to-ear under the balaclava, if Richards goes to the Blues...

Be Nice and Red and yet another Reason I can see us Picking Richards at 6
Unless he is worth pick 6, we don't want him. No need to draft someone just because his grandfather played 2nd fiddle to his brother as a player. The twists and turns in the speculation over our pick 6 are doing my head in. Please, no more Richards, Murphys or anyone else who does not seem a legitimate top 10 pick. No more 'In Hine we trust' or 'Hine Special' sentiments. Pick somebody bloody obvious and universally heralded by footy scribes, as well as devoid of any health issues or injury woes. Someone healthy, with some height, pace and kicking ability would be welcome as our first selection.
