Huh?

If he was a clear top 6 pick, why did no rep teams select him? Not like he was hidden in some bush league.

Would love to see the CD ranking of where he stacks up vs the rest of his more known draftees.
Like I said if the draft went another week the top 10 would change again, but that plays into our hands, if there is that much confusion we just need Hine to pluck a duck

Though I’ve waivered over the weeks I still want us to nab the Fog machine at 6. I see him as our Petracca.

If we draft Murphy or Richards at 6 I’ll barf. Mainly because we could have traded down our pick 6 and grabbed both of them!

Spot on, could of traded Richmond for the 2 picks to use on them both.

Why Murphy-
Not my first preference, but some reasons just in case.

Hine must see some attributes from cricket that could translate to footy eg.
  1. Courage - if you can have a rock thrown at your head at 150KM you aren't going to worry about being tackled or putting your head over the footy.
  2. Reading the ball from the hand- if you can read how a small ball leaves the hand at 22 metres, you shouldn't have any problems reading a ruck tap
  3. Reading the flight of the ball - if you can predict where a small ball travelling at 150 KM is going to land and position your feet in time, you should have no issues reading the flight and positioning your body for a mark
  4. Decision making - on the way to a century, you probably face over 500 balls and for each one you have to decide quickly whether to leave, block, duck, make a shot and if so which shot
  5. Hand to eye co-ordination and reflexes - within micro-seconds you have to co-ordinate your hands and feet after possibly adjusting for a sudden change in direction. These should make him good below his knees.
  6. Coachability - if you can learn 2 codes and be good at both, you must be able to learn
Given that he is already a good kick, and mark (as predicted by item 3), that he has excellent endurance over no pre-season and limited game time, that his physique is ideal for footy he may have a very high upside - particularly since he is the youngest in the draft
Will he make it for the first test though?
Edit: can he keep? Paine is a shocking choice

I'd rather Lachie... if he was 10cm taller :( ticks so many boxes, he just can't reach them.

He meant Lachlan Fogarty.
Reminds of when John Fogarty was accused of plagiarising a Creedence song. Turns out you're not allowed to copy yourself.

A hindsight redo? So you would pick a player who played minimal games and retired due to injury over a 200 gamer?

Rusling was a great talent but facts are facts and he was injury plagued unfortunately.

Actually you can it was one of few cases he won. So copy l say.

Maybe Brisbane didn't want to trade 12 & 18 for the same reasons that people here want those picks. It's best to keep a higher pick in case someone comes sniffing late for your man. Don't know if Bulldogs were closely linked to Bontempelli until the final stages. We were box seat at 6. Some players rise late.
