Like Hamish Shepheard?

A guy we drafted in the rookie draft?

That was a no risk, potentially high reward pick. Not a massive deal it didn’t work out.

A top ten pick is a very different story imo. The fact we have three picks inside 20 perhaps means there is greater potential to take a risk or two though.

It was more of a comment about “could be anything” also a strong possibility to be nothing. A-la Hamish.

As long as we grab an outside mid and a key forward with 6 and 8 I don't really mind. Erasmus sounds good but I also wouldn't mind Johnson or Wanganeen-Milera even if they are considered "reaches" by the arbitrary internet ranking system based on mock drafts from random people on the internet. We should accept now that we are very unlikely to get both Amiss and JVR.

I like the romanticism of grabbing Jai Serong with a late pick which means Benning needs to be cat b and we cannot grab 2 talls early. Hopefully someone good slips to 19 or we trade it for a future 1st and slide back in the second round and grab Motlop.

I am also keen on Johnson. His pace in testing tipped the scales for me. He gets the ball and has burst speed...

Sorry, who is the outside mid? Wanganeen-Millera is the only fit of the three you mentioned.

Johnson is the one who looks like a Mundy midfield replacement.

Amazingly the best WA had at the combine was only 19s faster than him, but there were five Victorian runners who beat Warner's time.

... seven of the top ten times this season were Vics and under 6:30.

So maybe someone needs to go pace out the track just to make sure.

Pretty sure Pick 6 is genuinely cursed, with players taken averaging 56 games each compared to top-ten picks as a whole who average 107.5 games.

pick 2 is better than 1 pick too. Just the way it sometimes works out. For pick 6 maybe its just people have a 'top 5 players" mentality which means the 6th pick is someone who has dropped from the top 5 and should have dropped lower.

That's only counting Vic Country. The Vic Metro kids have a separate leaderboard based on Strava times. There's 10 under 6:14, which would put them all between 2nd and 3rd on the main leaderboard. The Strava times do not look particularly suspicious to me, as I would expect fit athletes to run close to 6 minutes. Warner's 6:20 is not really that impressive for the best of a bunch, and I wouldn't be surprised if they indeed stuffed up the distance for the WA combine.

Probably running on a treadmill was the only thing those Vic kids could do for the last few months. But the Vic combine times did look suspiciously fast.

Classic time record trick …. has a pacer on track with them setting the pace to ensure fast times…

Strong through the hips aswell. Averages 27 touches a game so is very consistent.
I’d really like to see him with Treacy and Tabs in the forward
Line.
There is no way he is only 188cm now.
Sure Johnson is a smooth mover, this guy just looks like he will
Run straight over the top of you🙂

For the record the 'averages 27 touches' is from 3 games.

He's such a good mark as well. Best in the draft for mine. So much to like about him.
