Vic Country coach Robert Hyde compared Ziebell's kicking skills to Nathan Buckley! I didn't seem much of the carnival but was hoping for more.

RH rated Nat clear No.1

If Melb really want Watts
the Eagles - Rich
Freo - don't need Nat

Could getting 4 from Port for our 6 and a player give us any chance at Nat:confused:

Hmmm Ziebell or Hurley.........
Pick a card, any card, any cards a winner.

Exactly! Although, of late, my 'spidey senses' seem to be favouring Ziebell. Either way we're winners. :D:thumbsu:

He sounds like a pretty damn awesome consolation prize if the Dons take Hurley. What about Hartlett? Can we lose?

Not really, as long as we pick one of them.

If Watts nominates I think we will have a choice between two of them, if he doesn't we get the one that is left. As long as we don't take Vickery or Johnston over any of the three I'll be happy.

Ok, don't smash me here, but what about the idea of doing something with our pick 6 to get hold of Prismall ? (I know nothing of the relative merits of ziebell/hartlett/hurley so my opinion of them's worth about the same)

Prismall is reportedly jack of getting no opportunities, and is a ready-to-go hard-bodied and highly skilled midfielder. Pretty much exactly what you'd hope Ziebell or Hartlett would become in two or three years' time.

Would a straight swap for pick 6 be an over-the-odds price to pay ? (question NOT statement)

Yes, too much to pay.

If Prismall is in the market, he's worth pursuing, but definitely not for a first-rounder. There'd be a lot of clubs interested, too, so there could be some price wars.

Was thinking about the draft & the likely outcomes if Melbourne don't take Watts, and it is not out of the question Watts could be around at pick 6.

Natanui - Melbourne
Rich - Eagles
Hartlett - Freo
Vickery - Port
Hurley - Ess
Watts - Carlton
Ziebell - Brisbane
Trengove - Richmond

Port could take Vickery or Watts.

Basically I don't think Eagles,Freo,Ess will take Watts, so that only leaves Melbourne or Port with picks before us.

I have only seen him play the 1 match, anyone seen him play more often & have a opinion on him.

Certainly would. We could probably secure him with our 2nd rounder IF we were prepared to have a real go for him. ;)

Personally i think Varcoe is more the sort of player our structure needs but he's likely to be one very happy Pussycat in a few weeks.

Can somebody give me a little spiel on Vickery ...

sounds like he's a chance to shake the top #5 ... ?

how does he rate in comparison to Kreuzer?

From what I have seen of Vickery, he looks very much at home up forward, and can take a pretty good mark. Doesn't have the athletisism like Kreuzer, but would certainly be well inside top 10 at this stage.

I'm sure Gilly or Cruiser23 could give you a more detailed analysis of him than I can at this stage.

Carlton, please don't get ziebel. too slow, doesn't break the lines, does not stand out for mine.. I just don't get him. Hurley would be interesting if he is available. Hrtlett looks a talent as well.

Hartlett.

Hurley might address our needs more, but we should always go for the best available.

We still need another clearance player.

It's only highlights which are subjective and might be misleading, but I was more impressed with Hartlett's clearance work, evasion, vision, kicking and speed than Ziebell when they both played against a second rate team.

Hartlett looked more impressive against a second rate team than Ziebell.

Hartlett's ability to get in the right place to win the ball in the middle and link up is very good.

Though Ziebell is younger.

Hartlett should be ready to play straight away like Joel Selwood and play 20 odd games next year.

Ziebell is a bottom ager like Gibbs and Hodge who took longer to make their mark as a midfielder than Judd and Selwood.

Another tick in my book if Hartlett can play next year and strengthen our midfield.

That's my uneducated opinion based on 4 minutes of footage. :p :D

Comparisons are odious, but who does Hartlett play like?

Would it be fair say Hartlett is a bit like Simon Black with Nathan Brown's ability to kick goals?

Doubt we'll get Hartlett with Port looming large with pick four.

Hartlett's ability to get in the right place to win the ball in the middle and link up does look superior to Ziebell.

So far you have preferred Sidebottom, Johnston, Hurley, Robinson, Ziebell now Hartlett

You're that close to taking over the "fickle" tag from me :p:D

That's because I'm a clown and a trainspotter like everyone else on BigFooty*.

actually i think Port will go for Vickery, so u guys might end up with Harlett.

Port are already loaded with skinny and stick skilled midfielders who can't tackle or get tackled easily.

I think ant555's summary of Vickery on the draft board is fairly accurate. He is very athletic for a big man (200cm) and is very good at ground level. He's isn't one to kick often but it good by hands and is not afraid of laying tackles. As HBF said he is fairly potent up forward and would stretch a few defenses in a few years just like Hale is doing at the moment. His ruck work is very good, IMO broke even with Naitanui this year during the carnival. As ant555 said, i don't see any glaring issue that would stop him or endanger his chances of becoming a very good ruckman. He's been a bit of a bolter for mine, being very impressive at the right time of the year. I had him late-middle first round early on in the year because he was coming off a knee injury, right now, i wouldn't count him out of being picked up at number 1 to the Dees. Personally i don't think he is the best prospect in the draft (top 5 for mine) but apparently the Dees are very keen on him for obvious reasons.

As for his comparison to Kruezer, personally i see a fair few similarities, i think Kruezer is better by foot though.

Gilly, Jeremias, anything to add or disagree with anything?

Who is the better tackler and defensive player, Hartlett or Ziebell?

If we don't get Hartlett, I'd go for the pacy Stephen Hill as one from left field and a bolter.

Everyone seems to have the same players in a different order for the first six picks and have it accepted as the order they'll get selected. :)
