treloar is going to richmond
we might get aish with that pick but Id rather look at the draft talent and see if theres a quality goal sneak in the mix. lets face it no big names are going to want to play for us at the moment anyway

Treloar will be a pie.

Aish will be the harder acquisition especially having to deal with Lions after the Beams trade, haven't read from any reliable source other then media speculation that we are front runners for him either. We will be trying but I'm not sure we can land both.

I'm not sure that there will be any bad blood between the Pies and Lions tbh. Negotiating is a game of who can make their opponent blink first, and rarely does it get heated enough whereby grudges occur. Yeah, the Lions paid through the nose for Beams, but they knew they'd have to, and they did get their own way a few times with no 'untouchables' leaving, and denying pick 20 to the Pies when they asked for it. Add in that Beams was easily their best player this year and I'm sure they feel like they got value too.

We've generally been one of the fairer clubs to deal with at the trade table. No reason why the Lions won't sit down and deal with us if Aish nominates us imo.

Why not?
Clubs are either in the premiership window or building to it.
Collingwood is as good a bet as say richmond or the dogs. Its all left to goodluck, good management and keeping essendon and carlton at the bottom

We have one in Abbott just a bit shorter but similar style player.
Who's this Abbott you speak of. The only player on our list I can think of that fits that mould is the BIG SHOW!!!

Careful common sense like your post is not always held in regard as it should be

It sounds like Hopper might be the man, could be like Wines?

Hopper isn't as extremely powerful/big bodied on that level or as big of a kick as Wines. Being realistic I anticipate Hopper develops into something like a Ben Cunnington in terms of quality of inside work which is still excellent.

Knightmare Do you feel as though we should be asking Aaron Hall's management if he'd fancy a move to Melbourne? We hew we have enough inside grunt, some outside Polish would be nice. I really rate him, I'd love to think that we'd at least ask the question.

Never any harm in asking. And Hall could be something like another Travis Varcoe as he has that same pace and also the ability to apply that tackling pressure.

A move I would explore if Gold Coast wanted to move up the draft would be to offer our first round pick to Gold Coast for Hall, their end of first round compensation selection and their second round selection.

I feel around that late first/early second round area in this draft there is some real value to be had with guys like Ryan Clarke, Luke Partington and Wayne Milera seemingly underrated and also excellent list fits as guys with running ability but then also the footskills and composure to give us some things we relatively lack.

Gold Coast on the other hand probably wouldn't mind the midfield options available around pick seven, with a Mathieson possibly available as one example of a mid who would surely appeal to Gold Coast or perhaps a Balic or Curnow as some others who would be suitable gets for Gold Coast.

A smooth moving outside mid who can feed the ball into our 3 talls in Cloke, Moore and Reid
Are there any available in this draft?

Darcy Tucker is one with a Lovely Kick and is more Outside then in

I've conceded to myself that we'll be without Pick 7 come the draft.

I think we should also be discussing who we could get with pick 25.

What are the chances that anyone out of Ryan Burton, Darcy Tucker, Weiderman, Nyuon or Tahana will still be around then? And are they relevant to our needs?

25 will be gone too.

3rd round onwards for us.

Failing Treloar.

Patrick Dangerfield as a free agent would be the guy. But with Dangerfield looking unlikely.

I'd be taking a shot at the other names through trade week. Steven Motlop, Harley Bennell, Lewis Jetta, Chris Yarran and Jeremy Howe as some examples are worth going after and can help us get better through trade week. Motlop and Bennell certainly in straight trades for pick seven I'd do in an instant. Jetta, Yarran and Howe I'd want something else as a sweetener to feel motivated to move pick seven.

In the scenario we have no options and we're stuck with lets call it pick seven. Bidding on Jacob Hopper and Ben Keays would be where I'd start as in my view the two best mids - Hopper the best pure inside mid and Keays the classiest/most damaging mid. A bit like last year, no clear guy I'd want at seven. I'd be probably more interested in moving down the first round into two later first round picks with a view to draft Ryan Clarke, Luke Partington and Wayne Milera, with the hope I can get one of those with our second round pick (all classy, athletic types who can do damage and find plenty of the footy). Joshua Dunkley as a bid bodied midfielder and Brandon White as a high level general backman are two others I'd consider in that range as two others I rate highly.

Agree with Motlop and Bennell but I'd be pretty disappointed if Yarran ended up at the pies via pick 7. Not sure I'd want him at the club at all to be honest. Soft outside runner that may add polish to a top 4 contender.

As per my post that you quoted. I would not trade pick seven in a direct trade for Yarran. But Yarran I'd be open to as a component of a deal for pick seven (or whatever that first round pick ends up being which now probably won't be quite so low).

If Carlton traded Yarran, their second round pick and another piece for pick 7. I may then be open to making the trade, depending on what other deals are possible.

In terms of Yarran as a list addition. I'd have no issue with adding him. We need pace and guys who can offer meaningful run and carry, as well as offer something we ball in hand. And Yarran is a suitable list fit and a talent upgrade. So for the right deal, I'd be open to adding him, as I would anyone else who would be clear best 22 for our team.
