There were 2 other clubs that were going to take him before our pick 70.

I'm pretty sure Matt Burgan made a note or two about it in his Phantom draft, and I remember reading an article from the West about Freo being really keen on him.

I'm sorry, but that does not mean "2 other clubs were going to take him".

GTF, the club has more info than you as to who is likely to take who, and where, and their decision to take Hislop at 58 as opposed to 70 would have been based on that. And it's not as though this ruckman was snaffled soon after we passed up on him - he was only one away from making it to our fourth round pick.

Just read that on the HS website too. Why would we have wanted another ruckman?

Putt / Graham / Simmonds / Pattison / Vickery - Thats enough if you ask me.

Great point. I'm also confused by the continued recruitment of ruckmen.

If we keep getting them in, then blokes like Graham should be shown the door rather than receiving a new contract, no? There's certainly no confidence being shown in guys like him.

Getting McColloch would have been a joke, thank you Brisbane.

Not really, just called keeping your options open, Vickery is just 18(?) and doesn't need to really show anything special until he has matured more and reaches approx. 20-21, Putt is still only in his second year and is looking like being more a forward, Graham is now 21yo turning 22 by the start of the season, he is fully matured now and will need to show something in order to stay on the list, this is his year, if he has a break out season, then Simmo can be used less at the ruck and will prolong his career.

I would say our ruckman order would be Simmo, Patto, Graham, Vickery(Will no doubt be no.1 or no.2 in a couple of years, but give him time), Putt.

For a position that requires 2 players in the starting 22, having 5 let alone 6 (if we got our hands on McColloch) on the senior list is overkill to the point where it impinges other positions on the list.

Have 4 ruckmen on the senior list, and 1 on the rookie list. I don't give two hoots how old they are for the sake of this argument, if there is too many then we can't be optimizing the space on our list.

The desire for McColloch remains concerning if not mind boggling, even drafting Vickery gives us excess IMO (not questioning his talent, I'd rather delist Graham).
