I think if Ross had his way the Magpies would be an entire team of Category B rookies from the Dinka tribe.

So with that being said, Hopefully long term his leg strength (and upper body) develops at a good pace and he keeps his feet in defensive marking contests.

Logan Austin for instance was built up well but fell over at every opportunity and it cost us badly.

So now Hombsch and Austin are gone we need Lienert and McKenzie to step up now and act as good depth to Jonas, Clurey and Howard.

Riley has safe hands and is pretty athletic for a 194 cm player. Looks a bit gangly but I wonder if that is the 'socks down' effect? If he were playing with his socks up maybe we would not notice those long shanks as much? Geoff Parker says he has only been playing 5 years so he probably lacks a bit of polish.

I read a draft preview that suggested North Melbourne might pick him up early in the draft so he was on some people's radar and it was nice to get in before Collingwood.

A good pick up and fulfills a need on our list.

It will probably take at least a couple of seasons at the Maggies to develop Riley Grundy, but I heard that he said himself he only took up footy at 15, which was only 3 years ago, not the 5 that Parker mentioned, so going by that alone he should have plenty of upside with the extra coaching he will get from being on an AFL list.

I reckon he is a chance, particularly if he gets specialist coaching from Bass.

His marking was a lot better than I expected. I'm not too fussed about the low disposal numbers as long as he can keep intercepting like he did in that video.

Reads the play well. Nice positioning. Will be very keen to watch his development. We desperately need a defensive player of his height with first rate marking skills. Let's hope he becomes that player at afl level.

I remember Brodie being torn a new one by Lobbe in the 2013 elimination final. Look how that turned out. Wouldn't mind the same development by Riley.

Ken would sooner throw Westhoff or Watts back, or go undersized with McKenzie or Lienert.

Jeez it would've been handy putting a mature age KPD on the rookie list rather than Cam Hewett for his fourth go round.

Brodie went a lot lower in the draft than expected but is now doing better than most ruckmen who went at number 1. Hopefully Riley will have a similar success and play like a high draft pick.
