List Mgmt. Pick 9

Loving the intrigue around our pick(s) this year. Last few have virtually been a rubber stamp on the day/night. Could trade up or down or get one of three at #9. I like some players better than others, but would not be disappointed with any of the boys rumoured to be in the mix.

I reckon Twomey is on the money for the top 10 picks. He always is. We'll get Stephens at 9.

The question remains whether SOS will try and trade back in if Brodie Kemp, Cooper Stephens etc. are still on the board and we can facilitate a trade.

Yep. I've got no idea who'll be unveiled with Martin on Friday.

If i had to guess, i'll throw out trading 9 for something this year and something next year to Geel or GC. Then trading our 2nd and 3rd next year for a pick in the 20's this year.

Friday, SOS unveils:

1) A pick in the teens player this year.

2) Jack Martin and a pick in the 20's player for the single price we were gonna spend on Martin alone.

3) Pick 43

4) hands Agresta an extra mid/late future 1st to chase a proven player.

Been out all day....all caught up now

So....it seems now that Cows will be selecting Stephens at 6 according to bluemours.....GWS likely to grab Ash or Young at 4, and Swans get Flanders at 5.

Freo will now probably pick Ash/Young and Serong at 7 and 8.....so MsAsey will still be on the board, with numerous clubs keen to nab him. He's been linked to Hawks, so Cats will probably come a knockin'....as will GCS, and possibly Port. There would even be a deal to be struck with Hawks if we played them off against the other clubs to get first crack at him....

With Stephens, Young and Serong potentially gone by pick 9, who do we then go for? Seems likely with B70 saying they were the players we were targeting, do we now look to trade down?

Think I'd prefer to trade with that scenario.

Crows will take McAsey.

Only listened to bits and pieces of the audio stream to that pre-draft show on AFL.com.au. They interviewed Stephens. I might be wrong on this because it wasn't my primary focus at the time, but I think he said that the Crows hadn't seen him since the draft combine. Probably a sign that they're leaning in another direction as I would have thought they'd interview the player one last time before selecting him.

If we do in fact trade down, we'll probably target Kemp. That's my guess, but Twomey normally has strong mail on the top 10. The draft will probably go off on a tangent around Hawthorn or Port Adelaide's first pick.

I am truly unconcerned with maintaining or adding future first round picks. Our list is adequate now(post draft/Martin) to go all way in a relatively short time frame. If we don't take Serong or unearth a late gem, obviously revisiting Papley could be an issue, but don't need the much discussed big fish. By the end of the coming season we will need a bigger pond to accommodate the growth of our current school of fish.

Choice of two gun distributors with other assets or a hybrid small forward/mid will be a wonderful addition. Part of me would be very happy to trade back in and take Cooper Stephens and/or another late first/early second prospect. Thankfully C.Stephens has enough scope to play other than inside mid, as Crippa, Setters, Walshy and Stocker, with plenty of prospective help are going to rival the Brisbane midfield in their premiership years.

Yeah, i'm similarly truly unconcerned on the particulars of what we do. I think our list is incredibly well set up and the further we go without a "big fish" the less we actually need to get one.

I just reckon this will be a further discovery year on where particular players actually fit in what we'll settle into as a team. An extra 1st next year might be better to utilise to target someone we "actually" need, not just project we might need.

Just spitballin to pass the time, but yeah, i'm much more interested than concerned on what we're gonna do tonight and tomorrow.

There's always someone that will make for immediate impact and once you've done that, you're given more opportunity and more of a chance to make good.

It was somewhat odd just how many rated Stephenson so low, given the traits at hand.
Trick was that Collingwood needed someone like him, gave him the early opportunity and played the forward line to his strengths.

Serong and Stephens in particular, have the opportunity to walk straight into our best team from the get-go.
Should we draft either, I'd be happy...but somehow happier if we do that deal with GC should they be desperate to get into the top ten for a third pick.

hey would u guys take 23 and 24 plus gws first round next year for pick 9, that’s way overs but would u consider it. Just wondering. Should be a good night for everyone and sorry for intruding just curious

Something’s brewing

Posted this also in the Draft thread ...

Carlton and Adelaide are in talks over a blockbuster trade tonight that could deliver Hayden Young to the Blues.
The Herald Sun understands that the Blues would send pick 9 and a sweetener to the Crows in exchange for No.6, which would be used on Young
, a dashing half-back from the Dandenong Stingrays.

Adelaide remains confident it could still secure the player it wants, most likely Aaron Naughton clone Fischer McAsey, at pick 9.

Depends on who gets through.

I personally wouldn't. I get that it may seem like overs because of the draft points index, but at the end of the day, picks are only worth the players you can attach to them.

For me, the run and carry that Stephens can provide, especially with Marc Murphy approaching retirement is extremely valuable.

Could we do a deal with Adelaide of Pick 6 and future first for Pick 9 and future first? Back ourselves in to finish above them next year to "win" the trade.

Future first won't be involved in that trade.

It will be a future second, which is enough to make it worthwhile for both teams.

We can't afford to use first round selections to move up a couple of places on the draft board. GWS are probably the only team that has the luxury of doing that.
